I own a predator in .223 my dad has one in 6.5, and I have a couple buddies who own various recent Ruger rifles. Everyone is satisfied. Fantastic firearms for the money. The stocks are a little cheap, but for a hunting gun that will be out in the weather it’s perfect IMO
Does Sooner Pawn or whoever it used to be still do the transfers for 10 bux?

I have two Ruger American ranch rifles, chambered in 223 and 762x39. I also have a bergara B14 wilderness special purpose rifle with the 18.5” barrel in 308 win.
I love the Rugers. They’re cheap, reasonably accurate, and light. The stocks (like most Ruger stocks) leave a bit to be desired, but the do their job. I slap a sling on it and build up the cheek rest, and they do well. The actions are tight and gritty, need to be slapped around for a few hundred rounds before they feel decent. Trigger is meh, definitely workable, and adjustable.
My bergara isn’t broken in yet, just sighted in. It shoots well, feels really nice overall. Definitely worth the premium in terms of features, fit, and finish. The ability to use many Remington 700 parts with the platform is a huge plus. Out of the box the action is crazy smooth and feels wonderful. Comparable to tikka in my opinion. Trigger is ok, better than the rugers, adjustable, but I’m no trigger snob.
If I were in your shoes, I would probably pony up the extra cash for a bergara. You’ll get your moneys worth, and the aftermarket support further adds value. I found mine at Ares State Armory, ordered it through their distributor. Was pretty painless and only took 4 days to get the rifle in. Not a bad shop to check out, was worth my hour and a half drive.

great feedback, appreciate it. I am still considering the Bergara. I made the mistake of telling my wife I wouldn’t buy another gun unless I could trade one off - and the AR market has softened quite a bit I am learning. the Ruger fits my budget, otherwise I gotta unload two…
Ruger americans and ranches are $424-525. Hunters are 7 something not worth it unless you love Magpul stocks
If your only purpose is to hunt with it, you dont need a Hunter. A Standard or a Predator will do you fine. The hunter is more $$$ because it comes standard with a Magpul stock. It also has a medium to heavy barrel which you dont need for hunting unless you want the Magpul stock to come with it
I had a early rotary mag 308 predator, that thing shot anything I put in it sub moa! Cheap 150s to high dollar hand loads everything was groovy! But I had to have a new one with AI mags so I sold it and got one. Biggest mistake I’ve made in the last several years. The newer predator hated anything under 165gr, 4” patterns at 100 with hood 150s, 1/4” groups with 165gr gameking hand loads. Sold it off only because flexibility is important to me.
That’s the only gripe I have about them though! Had a 7.62x39 that shot lights out with anything. Still have a Ranch rifle in 6.5 Grendel that’s more accurate me. And I have a 350 Legend ranch rifle that’s stupid accurate too! For the money they can’t be beat as long as you realize they are not a crazy smooth custom action. They sound like a zipper, have a semi loose fitting bolt and the factory stock feels like a turd, but functionally they are awesome.
