I have come to the conclusion that a dishwasher is just a semi-purification chamber if used with soap and hot hot water.

Kinda reminds me of the coin operated automotive spray and wash. (Or pressure washer!) Car / truck always looked hazy afterwards!

I never used the spray and wash and thought, Wow........ my vehicle looks as good as if I washed it with soap, water AND a scrub rag!

I had it engrained in me the dishwashing machine was a sanitizing device not a cleaning device. I am doing my level best to teach the kids the same. When I was single, I never even used my dishwasher because it would be 2 weeks before it had enough dishes to justify running it. It was far easier just to wash and dry them by hand and put them back in the cupboard.

Some dishwashers that contain internal water heating elements do sanitize the dish load to a certain extent, but most do not because the water used is not hot enough to actually kill bacteria. I think that most dishwasher manufacturers, at one time or another, pushed the idea of sanitation as a marketing tool even though it wasn't completely truthful.

Went to Lowes yesterday and bought a 7 CF freezer and told the salesman that I was a veteran and expected a 10% discount in price but he said that Lowes stopped doing the veteran discounts on appliances in March 2022. I'm not sure what HD offers but I'm going to check with them and see if they still give a vet a break on prices.
What items are excluded from The Home Depot Military Discount?

  • • The Home Depot Military Discount cannot be applied to select items, services and fees, including, but not limited to, some commodity products (including lumber, wire, building materials), value priced merchandise, appliances, tool rental fees, labor items, gift cards and services including freight and delivery.

Apparently both Lowes and HD aren't providing a 10% discount on many items-not just appliances.
Bought fridge, stove, dishwasher, microwave, sink, pergo flooring and carpet (free install) this past May at Lowes. Military discount applied.

Yeah, the ones we have now have a specific sanitation cycle that steams everything before the drying cycle. I have no idea what the actual temperature in there is, because we scrub everything thoroughly enough to dry and put back in the cabinet before they even go in the dishwasher. I may get curious enough to find a digital thermometer that could go in there and recall peak temperature for curiosity's sake.

That would be interesting to know. Please post your findings 😁

It's just the wife and me and we do the same. Hand wash pretty much all of our dishes. We do use the dishwasher as a drying rack though and run it about every 4 to 6 weeks just to keep it clean.

It's just me and I do the same. Hand wash and dry everything, then run the DW every couple of months just to keep the pump/motor from 'freezing' up. Saves a lot on the electric bill, too.
