I didn't read all of the comments, so this may be redundant. Check out Hanauma Bay and snorkel if you can. Go to the other side of the island, away from the touristy area, and expect to see lots of hot Japanese chicks in bikinis... if you're into that kind of thing.....

If you take a cab from the airport it is pretty expensive, I would recommend a shuttle and they'll drop you off at the front door of the Hale Koa. If you have small bags that will fit on your lap (doubtful) then you can take the bus to the hotel. As far as eating, be careful. We got ill from eating elsewhere at a "steakhouse." By now you know you don't need a rental car, you can ride the bus all around the island for I believe $1.50. Don't forget the flea market at the stadium, we bought 6 T-shirts for $20.00 to use as gifts. The luaus at the Hale Koa are alright but nothing to write home about but if you don't go, your bride will talk about it for decades so take her!
You can buy most of your souvenirs at the small BX at the hotel. Then there is the military museum a short walk away that is very interesting, old uniforms, guns and all sorts of military stuff and it is at no cost. You can spend 2-3 hours inside and still not see everything. The best buy on food is the Koko Cafe but there is no lunch as there used to be, all they serve is breakfast and supper. It's fairly reasonable in cost, clean and the help are courteous. Have a great trip! And you are wise by preparing in advance!

Secret bunker in an undisclosed location.
That is sad. They had hydrofoil ferrys back then that were cool. I bet my favorite steakhouse is gone too along with the Pearl City tavern and Tammy's Topless Titty Temple. :P
Last time I was in Hawaii was June of 1985. I suspect all the good stuff from those days is gone.

I have a co-worker who grew up there and has only been stateside a year or so. Her fam is still there. I'll ask her when I see her Thursday.

Just paid for our hotel in Hawaii for our honeymoon. Going in mid may. Never been. Cool stuff to do? Suggestions? We’re staying in the Hale Koa armed forces recreation center resort on Honolulu. Definitely eating spam musubi from gas stations and all the bbq/seafood I can shove in my face. Gonna go see Pearl Harbor. Might spend a day fishing. Anything else? Anything to avoid? The wife loves the beach/ocean. I love everything.
Learn Chinese and Japanese to be able to communicate with cabbies and tourists..
The Waikiki Aquairium is a no go. I think the stadium flea market is only during the summer.
There is an ABC store everywhere. You can stock up on food there. They also have a good selection of Tiki's from every size you can imagine. The Embassy Suites Hotel has a brunch every day. While you are at any food market, you have to try the papayas and bananas. They are so sweet when they are picked ripe instead of green then ripened with gassing like all of the US supply.

I've been to Hawaii 4 times but it was just to refuel and move on with only airport visits.
BUT! I do watch TV and there are tons of hunting opportunities for Axis deer, hogs, goats, and upland hunting.
I'm sure that's not the honeymoon experience the bride is looking for, but one never knows?
