Shotgun vs AR for SHTF utility?

If your plan for SHTF is to stay home and hope no one tries to actively hunt you, then yeah a shotgun would be fine.

I think at times like that a more offensive strategy is in order, and would therefore prefer a rifle if forced to choose only one.

it wasn't shtf but my ancestors armory consisted of a 22 and a 12 ga. the 22 ammo was majority shorts and i don't remember a preferred shotgun load but i am sure it wasn't buckshot. both were single shot breech loaders. they used traps more than guns and even then usually used a club to dispatch the trapped animal. when we butchered livestock we used a hammer to stun and then bleed the carcass.

Ahhhh...this is my dilemma at the moment, next gun Beretta 1301 tactical or PSA-AK-P....choices choices....
