Sorry, but that's a dead dog. Once they do that, they ain't going back. He'll do it again.
It sounds like the problem is being resolved, but the neighbor is fortunate to have CR as a neighbor. If I'd caught anything on one of my animals, I'd've ten-ringed it, which is probably not the best thing for maintaining good relations with the neighbor, but I've lost too many animals to varmints to have any compunction about stopping it.

It's also why I went to great lengths to keep my dog secured--I'd expect no less from a neighbor if she'd attacked one of their animals, so I did everything I could to keep that from happening.

So, @OK Corgi Rancher , I can't say you handled the way I would've, but I'm glad it's working out as well as it is. You're a good dude.

Dispatching the dog wasn't an option in the moment. And I sure as hell can't go over to the neighbor's property to kill his dog after the fact. I didn't have a gun, the dog ran away. I doubt he'll be back. Believe me, I considered killing the dog but I would've had to use my hands...and I was more worried about my goat at the time.

So that's why I said I wasn't interested in hearing about killing the dog or how I should've killed the dog. I knew it was a waste of time to even type that. It wasn't really an option at the time and it's sure as hell not an option now.

Not to mention I likely will be living next to this neighbor for the remainder of my life. I don't need that kind of relationship with a neighbor who, aside from this incident, has been a very good and helpful person. So frankly, I think the "shoot the dog" nonsense is a little short-sighted. Sure...it might solve one problem but how many does it create? And the man told me he was going to address the problem of the dog and do what needed to be done in terms of making the damages right.

You're wanting to put a liberal in charge of the barnyard? There's going to be some crazy looking varients come up in a few months. Drag goats and all that weird stuff.
Don’t be bad mouthing donkeys. I’ve got one that is ten times smarter and a 100 times more loyal than anything in Washington DC.

@OK Corgi Rancher , I hope and pray that she makes a full recovery!

i had neighbors who had donkey's to protect their cow herd and calves. they kept loosing calves so they got more donkey. i watched those donkey kill more baby calves than i care to count. the neighbor finally took my word and got rid of the donkeys and the loss stopped. the whole thing started when a coyote was caught eating on a dead calf and got the blame for killing it.

I was just injecting a little humor into the thread. We see the donkeys used around here for the sheep and goat folks as well. It's all good.
