After seeing a lot of coyotes while deer hunting (my brother saw 11 one day), I figured I need to thin out the yotes on my place. That is probably where all the turkeys have gone. I have no idea how to hunt them but just ordered a LuckDuck e-call out of Rogers. I self taught myself to turkey hunt so figure I could do the same with coyotes.

Is this a you have to be there at butt crack early deal or can you hunt them anytime during the day? How far should I expect them to get for shots? Is a .270 too big of a caliber? I was wanting to get them after duck season, is Feb a good month to go? If not, when is best?

Tell me what I need to know. I have not idea what I am doing so any advice would be great.
when I was a kid in Osage co. on my Grandpa's ranch if I saw 11 coyotes I'd better have 11 spent cases when I came home. after seeing my show calf after coyotes got to him I shot every coyote I saw even if a 10 point was in the field coyotes get shot first

Kill all of them you can get a sight pic on.....short of hunting them with megaton thermonuclear devices, you'll NEVER eradicate the bastages! They survived set-guns, poison bait, Gov. trappers and paid bounty at the courthouse as well as shooting from horseback and helo.
Quick tip, roadkill deer carcasses are fine bait piles to shoot 'yotes over.
Here in Arizona they are overpopulated and coming into town and jumping fences and grabbing up dogs and cats. Has even attacked a few people. There is open year round season with a 10 per day limit. Pretty much anywhere exception on government installations. They have taken down all the population of deer, elk, pronghorn, turkey and several cattle.
I was hooked on Prairie dog shooting, but had to drive to Colorado to do it. 1,000 mile drive. So now taking up yote shooting close to home. I'm going to use my .17 HMR with Hollow points to start. If I can't get them in, I will take the AR out. However I shoot my CZ 457 Varmint at silhouette targets at 235 yards with accuracy.
I watched lots of Youtube videos. Most come in within 100 yards. Seems like a lot of them used a 308 or Creed. Also be sure to keep the wind in your face to keep scent away! An electronic call is the only way to go from all my research. I just can't wait till next June to find another place to shoot Prairie Dogs. Any body know a place I can travel to shoot all day?

I agree but he was using archery equipment and they were all too far away. If they were close enough, he would have shot but they never made it to bow range.

I decided last night to go ahead and set up an AR for coyote hunting. I went through a few of my lowers and picked the one with the best trigger (not sure if it’s a Rock River or Geissele). I found a flat top upper to mount on it with GG&G riser, Burris Signature rings, and a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14 scope. I’m planning to shoot it today with factory ammo and see if load development is necessary. If it’ll do 1.5moa, I doubt I’ll mess with loading ammo for it. :anyone:

Something tells me that'll get the job done especially with such good glass.

I have a meopta Optika5 4-20x50 rd but it sits to high on my little handi rifle to clear the hammer so I'm running a Simmons 4x32 on it, wish someone made a good 4x32 that either wasn't from 🇨🇳 or didn't cost $500. The simmons works but I don't have much faith in it

I have an old Burris 4x from the early 80’s would fit your needs, but it’s not for sale. I’ve had good luck finding that kind of stuff on eBay and every once in a while Gunbroker.

I have turned them inside out with my 25/06 a lot but seems like my Henry 22 does a fine job on them also.
