Ok so I did some math and just quickly googled some new stuff like press, dies and primers.
Funnel and scale and 4lbs of powder along with 1000 55gr V-max projectiles

To make 1000 rounds of .223.
I got 700 bucks for a total.

No trimmer and no reloading book.
No brass.

But once that press and other things are bought it gets cheaper.
These were on line new in stock prices.

Save some by shopping for used I am sure.
And the best part you get much more accurate ammo.

I did google 1000 rounds of .223 and it was less than 700.
I suppose it depends on your ultimate goal if it is worth it or not.

Reloading is a passion to me, so I don't factor in time like others. I literally find it as enjoyable as shooting.

Here are my expenses for reloading .223, pre-component apocalypse:

(1K) 68-77gr .224 projectiles - $250-300.
(1K) 1xF Lake City 5.56 brass - $150.
(1K) CCI 41 primers - $35
(4lbs) Gunpowder - $120-140

So it ran me ~$550 to reload a thousand "precision" cartridges. That is still far less than buying the factory equivalent.

Obviously, you can save $150 by switching to cheap 55gr FMJ, and subsequent reloading would cost $400/1K since I'd be reusing the brass.

Add in the $400 - whatever costs for a reloading setup, and one can see why it takes about 1,000 - 1,500 rounds (depending on cartridges) of *rifle* ammo to make your money back if you reload.

Time is free when your doing it for yourself and i dont count what the equipment will cost compared to the cost of the ammo cause i figure my equipment will out last me and still be worth something, so all i figure is the cost of the components as to the actual cost to reload.

I've seen 55gr fmj .223 online for as low as $.32 per round just this week.
62gr SS109 is right there with it too. Even with shipping, it's coming out to ~$400 +/- $20 or so.

The same applies to 9ball and 45 acp...too cheap to reload effectively...especially if you count the time/effort.

If I got off my ass (but cheap ammo keeps it there) I can load 9mm damn cheap
