I use match grade bullets from Bob's bullets and they shoot pretty good for 10-12ents/
powder is around a dime ea and primers are market price -- before covid and the dims running things I was around 20cents a round
components are becoming more plentiful and soon will be getting back to a reasonable price - many retail are not even buying the higher price stuff as they don't want to get stuck with high price inventory - wait if you can and we will be buying primers for $4/k again this spring

I sure hope you’re right. That would be fantastic

I've tried to like reloading my own ammo but I just can't. Twice now I've bought nice, new or lightly used, complete setups for the basic calibers. Twice now I've tried it. Twice now I've absolutely hated the process. Just can't stand the tediousness of it. That's just me...I know it's like therapy for a lot of shooters and a lot of shooters like to wring every single bit of accuracy out of their hand loads. I'm not one of those guys.

I've come to the conclusion if God wanted me to reload he wouldn't have invented Winchester, Federal, PMC, CCI, etc...

Grumpy really enjoys reloading but me ... Ehhhhhhhhh, not so much. Which is weird cuz I can sit in front of a sewing machine for HOURS ... 🤷

It's a well known fact scientists and engineers have embedded XX chromosome magnets into sewing machines for decades. The Lifetime Movie Network and the Hallmark Channel use the same technology.

I love sewing in fact the wife had a crappy machine and I got my 1947 Dodge truck and I went to Trueman fabric and bought material and went and got a new Singer Simple from walmart for 99 bucks and over 10 years later that machine is still working.
I made my upholstery and seats with it and the wife makes quilts with it now.

I do think reloading kind of sucks with all the brass prep i do but I have also made some dandy ammo with the bare essentials and not tedious.
In fact you can sit on a log in the woods with a rock and reload your ammo.
That is quite fun and then fire the round at the target and reload it in a minute and shoot it again and again.

I would love to show a video of that but alas I do not have the means to make a video.

Consistent and flexible ammo will be the benefit. Do not think you're going to save money reloading. You will end up down a deep expensive rabbit hole if you do much volume. Progressive press and a power case trimmer are the most expensive things I say for bulk reloading. If you do a small amount of rounds then its not a big deal.

But rough costs right now to load up 1000 rounds is going to be between 3-400 depending on projectile assuming you have brass. Tons and tons of people on armlist or gunbroker selling bulk lake city brass.

There are different ways to look at something, a different perspective if you will

Forget the "saving money" idea momentarily.

Reloading will allow you to shoot MORE for the same amount.

Whatever "savings" you think you may get will be the ability to shoot More. And that is EXACTLY what will happen if you stick with it.

And for me, at least, it gives me peace of mind that, if the price zooms up like crazy, and components get scare/stupid expensive, I can sit down and load some rounds and go shoot when others can NOT go shooting because they can't find/afford brand new factory ammo.

You need some $$$, but to me it's nice to be able to sit upon a lot of bullets, primers, powder and such, just sitting there waiting in the closet to be used. You may not be able to "see" that right now, but for those of us who have been around reloading for decades do see the difference. I started reloading in 1984-ish when my brother gave me a Lee Load-All in 12 gauge. I was hooked! I upgraded to a couple of MEC Sizemasters in 12 & 20, and also a RCBS Rockchucker and a Lee 1000 which worked darn well for me.

When you look back and realize you were paying a penny or 2 for a primer, practically nothing for powder, wads, shot, bullets etc, and if you'd spent heavily for a stash, later when the chit hit the fan clinton style, you could still do what you did and go shooting.

The only cheap day was yesterday.

40 rounds of ammo and one single 30-30 lasted me over 10 years for hunting deer.
Then that old early 1980's ammo was about gone and I bought some ammo in 2008 and it was Horrible.
Lucky to get it on 8.5x11" paper at 100 yards.
Began reloading with the lee classic loader Wack-A-Mole 3/4" groups and just scooped powder with the yellow scooper that came with it.

I went down the rabbit hole on reloading and now with 25,000 primers and more powder than those primers can shoot off I think i have just about enough supplies to last me a couple more years.

Yea you do not save money. It is like a drug. You just need to keep shooting it up.
Then you figure out you can super modify that drug and get even more enjoyment form it.

No cure.

I just despise the prep for rifle Calibers thus I don’t do them. I do have 3000 .223 cases ready to drop powder, bullet and crimp and even that doesn’t sound appealing since ammo is cheap right now.
