Sam’s / Walmart / O’Reilly deliveries

I’ve had people, driving personal vehicles, show up at my place to deliver something I bought. Yesterday I was doing some wood work in my porte-cochère and Sam’s delivered a couple cases of oil I bought online the day before.

There was a sticker on the box that said thank you for supporting my small business. The delivery lady was driving a Nissan Rogue.

How do these delivery folks make any money? Am I supposed to tip them?

Lots of car parts.
OKC to weatherford with 4 car tires in his trunk 70 miles 1 way and he got 45 MPG.
Figure 3 gallons round trip so 10 bucks or a bit less for fuel and he got paid $35 for the delivery.

He thinks that is great.
Maybe so but you better have a good car.

My Dad always said many self employed people don’t know if they’re making money or not. There’s a heck of a lot more expenses involved than just gas in that equation.

I'm sure some people are just in it for the pennies, but the ones doing it right will make money the same way those 99 cent books companies make money. Business taxes and writeoffs. That vehicle is paid 62 cents a mile (iirc) for 2022. Insurance is deductible. All meals are deductible (100% for 2022, only 50% for 2023 - thanks Biden) Anything else you use like Pikepass is a business expense. The company loses money, but the driver makes money.
If you make good enough money, your healthcare becomes "free" too.

Well since you have a porte-cochère I would expect such. and it should have been a Benjamin at least .I had to copy and paste to find that you have some sort of high faluten car port. But I gots me a new word now .

He gets a lot of short good pay ones but he was here when he got a text for that long haul.
He said you will get more calls if you do not turn down so many of the so so ones.

I was a self employed roofer in the late 70’s to mid 80’s. I knew exactly how much money I was making. i was very cognizant of my profit margins.

I’m the same way, so I guess that statement doesn’t apply to us.

Same here. I'm annoyingly anal about all my P&L. Having said that, I've worked for many folks that thought they had money to spend if they called the bank and there was money in the account.

Those are the types that just drop off a shoebox of receipts with their CPA once a year.
