SSP has a 44 special that needs re crowned . Looks like it took a direct fall on the nose of the barrel and the amount of metal movement makes me think soft metal.
I have been wanting a 44sp but know nothing about the charter arms except they have a crap rep on the webs.
Does any one on here have and older model Charter that can give me a little info about these or should I save my duckies and wait until I find something else.
Not wanting it for show but EDC so I do not care that it is a little ugly but want something reliable .

So I got it. It was made in Strattford, Conn which is an early model that is supposed to be good quality,. It locks up good and alignment is good. I will get some picks up shortly once I give a it a quick cleaning.
Buy the way , as usual the guys at SSP are excellent. Can not ask for a better bunch.

You know I have used a lee trimmer with lee case length gauge of the right caliber to cut a few rifle crowns by hand.
Then use the brass screw lap method and I finish with a marble and backing soda paste.

Just putting that out there to confuse yous.

I have one in 44SPL. Older model, works fine. When I got it the hammer was worn so that single action didn't work but it was fine as DAO. I called in and it was not eligible for warranty service, so I just paid the $50 to get a new hammer for SA/DA as well as a DAO hammer. Installed in about 15 minutes and it's worked fine ever since. Not really my cup of tea, but it hasn't gone anywhere for the long time I've had it listed. For it's intended role it's a solid choice, but I've got other solid choices as well basically.

Quit teasing us....we like before and after pics.
Patience grasshopper!! I had to walk the dogs, clean the gun , order some speed strips and some leather for the revo, eat dinner and talk to Mom before taking pics. And maybe a little bit of mess with my favorite Sooner fan whilst I do it !! Here you go brother!! I will get the after when I re crown it.
