Would you rather have the scout rail or the patrol rail on that rifle? I can't get over how goofy the scout scopes look mounted so far forward...thoughts anyone?
Took a lot of practice but now extremely comfortable with forward scope mount.

The great thing about 22lr is that you can suppress it and it's super duper quiet so you can pop zombies in the nugget and won't attract attention of their cohorts.
Oh, that reminds Mike. You know how Walther P22s are known for being really finicky with ammo. I bought a brick of CCI 22LR Suppressor ammo and it runs flawlessly.

If I were going to use a .22 rifle for whatever survival purpose, it would be one of my Henry lever guns. .22S, .22L & .22LR capable. Lever guns don't care about low-power, quiet rounds, either. And they have a respectable capacity.

But if I was really worried more about defensive use, a centerfire rifle, probably an AR, would be my choice.

I think a 22 would be great if you were not expecting trouble. In my opinion, if you are not expecting trouble, you are much better off avoiding conflict than trying to peashoot your way out. May be a good way if you were needing to travel light is a Glock on your hip with a Glock stock set up in a backpack or something. It would be super light, give you a little more fire power, and give you a little more capability than a 22. I think More is always more gooder, of course. But I don’t see me buying groceries in full battle rattle Lol.

I don't own a 22lr...(I know, I'm a bad person), but if SHTF tomorrow, I would grab my AR, my CZ 75, and my S&W Model 27. I'd probably also have my Sig P229 in my Crossbreed Supertuck. If SHTF a few months from now, A Mossberg MVP Scout .308 might replace the AR.
I don't own a 9mm , so there's that.🤷

There are several situations in which I would choose to utilize a .22 pistol or rifle.
There are no situations in which I would intentionally limit myself to one cartridge or weapon type.

Keeping my options open now allows me to match the tool to the situation when it arises.

I'm not sure how that would make a difference, other than leading up the grooves and making the whole thing even more dangerous. All I can say is various companies have popped in and out over the last few decades promising a safe 223 sub, and all have ended up causing documented squibs. And that's why you don't see any major ammo manufacturer offering 223 subs because they don't want the liability.
Midway USA sells sub sonic .223 ammo and in stock right now.

I have shot many sub sonic .223 loads with 55 V max and Red Dot powder.
They will pass through a 2x4. Good enough.
They will not cycle an AR but to me that is not a deal breaker.

Red Dot powder is my go to for sub sonic ammo.
I have a load with a 100gr powder coated bullet in .308 that will pass through a 2x4 and then some.
664 fps and the brass case does not need resized.

No neck sizing or anything. So the brass will last virtually forever.
I have dug a fired bullet out of a tree and stuck it back into the case and fired it again.

It is a super fun load to shoot.
.3cc Red Dot go to .5 cc and you need to resize the case.
I have shot these in 4 different .308 rifles and all of them love it.

Buddy of mine talked about this a long long time ago.

We came to the conclusion of having a 9mm and a 5.56.

Because of being nato rounds, more chances for a resupply somewhere down the road.

Now days there might be more 40s&w issued in your town.

Having some 223 / 22lr cartridge adapters with a supply of 22s would go good with the 556 rifle and 9mm hand gun combo.
In my opinion, the whole idea of sticking to NATO calibers so you can always find ammo has been blown out the window by the ammo “shortage” the last couple or three years. It sounds good in theory, but when several million people adopted the same mind set, it didn’t pan out like people thought.

Again, in my opinion, I think a resupply during a SHTF is a pipe dream. I believe a person is going to have only what they stocked, so you had better plan ahead or have components and equipment ON HAND to load your own.

A CMMG 22 conversion for an AR functions well enough to make it a good addition to a survival kit, and I said in another thread I recently acquired an Advantage Arms 22 conversion for a Glock 17. So far, the only ammo it won’t cycle is some really light subsonic, but it’s digested everything else I’ve put through it. Unfortunately, my plan isn’t for a G17 to be part of my survival kit, but I may alter my plan due to this 22 conversion.

I'm talking about attempts to make commercial subsonic 223s. Every single one has resulted in squibs. They're highly dangerous.

I can't speak for your handloads but it's a pretty big claim to say you've succeeded where commercial ammo manufacturers have failed, especially considering their ability to develop custom powders and put filler in the cases to fill up the left over dead space. If you've found the secret sauce to a safe 223 sub though you could be a rich man.
You are more than welcome to challenge my "big claim" just name the day, time and range to meet at. And be sure to bring cash, I don't take checks or plastic on bets.....especially on bets I know for a fact I will win.
