A cashier's check can't be made out unless there are funds to cover it. The bank won't do it. The bank will also deduct that amount from the person's account and hold it until the check is sent back to them to guarantee the check is viable.

The only way this won't happen is if the cashier's check is fake, or a forgery.

Wire transfers are a royal PITA, can take days to conduct, and are expensive.

If it were me, I’d meet him at his bank and get cash. The bank could also notarize the title at the same time. By any chance, is the buyer bringing the rv down by lake lawtonka? I had a guy contact me yesterday that said he was buying an rv in okc, and he was wanting to rent an rv spot down here.

When was the last time you did a wire transfer? We did one this week. It took about 5 mins. Now, they are pretty expensive...they charge a fee on both ends. But it was hardly a PITA or time consuming.

I think it was $25 total for the fees.

I sold a boat on ebay many years ago. I told the buyer I was concerned about a fake cashiers check, and that I wanted to verify it. He went to his bank and drew the check, then called me and gave me the check #, then gave me the banks phone number and his bankers name. I looked up the bank number on my own and called, got a loan officer and explained, he asked for the check# and looked it up, told me he wrote the check, how much it was for, and he knew the buyer. Said the buyer was honest guy, and it was all good. And it was. Just be open and honest, if the buyer is legit he will want to make you feel ok with the deal.

There is fraud everywhere- I'm a Realtor, and title co does a verification while the signing is going on. I took cash from a guy on an old RV before you had to take the tag off. He never changed title- took it camping at Lake Thunderbird and caught it on fire, and it burned to the frame. He just drove off and left it there. Park ranger sends me a ticket for nonpayment of the park fees- wreaker co sends me a $1000 towing bill. It seems too easy to jacked up now a days.
