What in the actual hell are you on about?
I was generally referring to "you" as some on this forum who accepted the mainstream medical narrative on covid (masks, vax, treatments, etc.) and debated and/or rejected the alternative points of view, and how ironic it was that when I now tongue-in-cheek find myself on the opposite side of the debate about vitamin D3, that people still oppose me; even if it means abandoning their previous tendency towards the medical establishment.

I don't recall where you came down on that covid-related debate, so apologies if replying to "you" is inaccurate. I just harnessed your reply because it was convenient since you were the second person to take the opposite side on the Vitamin D discussion. No offense meant of course.

that can trash your kidneys over time...you might be able to maintain optimal levels with less (maybe 2000-3000iu per day).

Also, to the other guy, the 50k thing is D2 and is the wrong form...regular D3 taken in 5-10k short term (maybe 3-6 months DYOR) can get levels up.

Of course I'm just sharing what I've come across, not lecturing, do what works best for you of course.
I was put on this regime by a PA.

Amazing...you all who were all for the medical establishment on the covid vax are now legitimizing a Scientologist Chiropractor over an actual medical professional? <friendly sarcasm>

My point was that a person with more formal medical training than most of us told me that taking too much vitamin D long term can hurt some people's kidneys...do you think the right thing to do would NOT tell what I heard? I could argue that not saying something might be a bit sadistic if I didn't care about JD.

But I'm happy to play along in the debate as always :) A quick internet search looks like there is something to it...probably rare, but not false.
And vitamin D is more of a hormone than vitamin

Yes, in that specific case I guess I was taking the opposite position LOL. I recall when my wife's D was low, they wanted to put her on the same regimen and at that time, I did some research and we decided to see if D3 alone would work and it did (worked for me as well). This just illustrates how we all sometimes take the establishment track and sometimes not. Good for you for calling me out though because I completely overlooked that.

Yes, it is a "pro-hormone" if I recall...just like cholesterol is necessary to build healthy hormones, so is vitamin D. The sun and dairy products supply a lot of it but we still have a lot who are on the lower end of the scale.

It has been awhile since I devled into it deeply, but I recall coming away with an opinion of 40-60 being an optimal range "all things considered". I know I don't need to say it because people will do as they do and should, but do your own research.

According to my bloodwork(looking at it right now), optimal range is, Reference Range: 30-100 ng/mL.
My PA had the blood test specifically ordered for VITAMIN D,25-OH,TOTAL,IA. Along with other tests.
My result was 29. I've got to go back to get my levels measured again within a month to see where I'm at with the supplementation.

~30 isn't too bad if you were not supplementing and especially this time of year...you will definitely get your level up with the protocol you mentioned. Just remember if you spend time outside in summer, you may want to get tested at the peak because some people (myself included) take more D3 in the winter than in the summer just based on the additional sun exposure. I tend to go conservative on most things though until I see a need to do more. I take 1-2000iu per day in summer and skip on lake days, and 2-3000iu in winter...my level has been 45-55 doing that for more than a decade. It was about 30 before just like you.

I'm sure you are in good hands with your PA, good luck.
