I propose that despite torture as it creates, a new thread should be started to include some GOOD manufacturers. Sabre Defense, Noveske, LMT, J.P Rifles, etc.

That should skew the results some.

You'd think so, but no it won't. Too many people are quick to vote in fanboy mode for "their" brand just because "they've had no problems with it".

Which is great - and that rifle is probably awesome for your intended use, but it doesn't mean that particular brand is better quality than another brand that you've never shot.

+1 on people routinely ignoring the facts

I could really care less what the poll results are on any survey. Sadly, if I recall correctly, BHO got the most votes in a nationwide survey back in November of 2008 so most votes does not indicate intelligent decision or quality product. :crying:

So I pose a different question, not WHO is the best, but WHY is "xyz" the best? Most respond with one sentence: "...because I never had problems..." or "my neighbor is a cop and uses it..." Now I do think providing input on your personal experience is good and useful to a degree, but to somehow extrapolate that it means it is the "best" is silly.

For instance, the last post said M&P over RRA. Others think Bushy, Noveske, etc. Is there any substantive things that can be outlined and compared between the various models? (I mean I know there is but will anyone do it is the bigger question).

And once compared, what are the explanations why X feature produces a better Y gun. I know this can get long and hairy, but like the last few people have stated: Either have a real discussion or no discussion at all...this fanboy stuff is not valuable to individuals truly seeking more knowledge.

The US Army uses Colt. Is that because they get them cheap on government contract or because the have better reliability/durability? Or Neither? The DEA uses Rock River Arms. Is that because they get them cheap on government contract or because the have better reliability/durability? Or Neither? I can continue down the list with a rainbow of companies that have support from large organizations so why doesn't the military switch to M&P or why do they not switch to RRA and so on and so on...

The military has a set of specifications (the often mis-used term "mil-spec") which is a minimum set of specifications that they want. Whichever company meets those specs and has the lowest bid gets the contract. They also look at whether or not the company can meet the production schedules and other things as well. The miltary gets M16s/M4s from Colt, FN and I believe Sabre recently got a contract as well. I think that Bushmaster also got a military contract to provide M16s for some foreign countries. None of this means that these are "the best", only that they meet the specs/cost that the government wants. Some commerical AR manufactures do not meet mil-spec and others exceed them. Which one would be best for YOU would depend on what YOU want to use it for and how much YOU are willing to pay. The often seen chart by rob_s (http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pwswheghNQsEuEhjFwPrgTA&single=true&gid=5&output=html) does show a lot about which manufacturers meet which specs, but again, that does not mean it shows what is the best for YOUR circumstances.

Just to clarify I don't think the m&p is the highest quality available just that its the highest of the choices in this retarded poll. Nik also hasn't been on here a lot because myself and a few others have gone into lengthy detail about why xyz is better only to be called snobs or because it's what I sell or just flat out liars.

Everyone has their own opinion on which AR is the best. Most care what name is on the side of the lower. Some care about what they cost. You can spend $2000 on one and it might not work as well and a $600 rifle. The debate will continue until the end of time.

All AR's are not created equal. Some are head and shoulders above others.

Gotcha. :thumb: yeah, I have not read or spent alot of time posting on some of these threads. I kind of have spurts of participation and time to read.

If disseminating facts makes you a snob on this board, then this board has some oddballs.
