I'm gonna keep an eye on this thread. I have asked around and no-one will do class III stuff.......kinda a "touchy" item. Don't know why, but thats the way it goes.

You may know of these.....but here goes.

1. Sam at Practical Solutions.....does Mac's, not sure on the Uzi. Have heard that his phosphate/parkerized finish has a very rough feel to it. http://www.practicalpage.com/

2.C&S: Called them about re-finishing my Mac. The way he spoke, they do a lot of Class-III stuff.http://www.csmetall-werkes.com/products/index.html?id=58&submit=view

Wish someone local did this, would like to see and touch a sample of their work.
**** Have you asked on UZI-Talk?

I am able to work on class three stuff, just being a regular gunsmith, but the atf recommends I fill out some kind of form.

The way I understand it the reason they "suggest" a form 5 is because lots of work requires test fire before returning it to the customer. If you get someone wanting to see your paperwork while shooting it then you don't get it trouble for it. (No form 5 - No testfire)

For a Refinish you would not have to do a form 5

Yep, something like that. The auto sear / trigger group and or auto enabling parts stay with the customer and I can refinish the rest.

If we time it right I can do a gun in a day, they bring it to me in the morning and pick it up later that day.

I appreciate it. What type of finish do ou think would be the best for longevity? Dura, Cera, etc? If it is a local person I have no problem dropping it off and picking it up, going and test firing with the refinisher etc.

The finish all depends on what you prefer. Color wise if you just want to keep it black then do a grain refined Parkerizing on it, it will be as original as you can get and it is a finish that is designed to soak up oil and takes a lot of abuse.

Colors are a bit trickier. They scratch and mar much easier than a black finish. All of them do unless you take real good care of your gun which is not what you expect to have to do for an automatic weapon, that’s why the manufacturers don’t offer them.

The paint I have had the best performance with is DuPont Master Tint in a single stage base. The paint has to be catalyzed and then sprayed on with an airbrush or spray gun and then I bake the finish in a home made gun oven at 140 F. for a half hour. An hour after it cools down it can be reassembled.

Mike (Olyeller) can do a parkerize for you and he is closer to you than I am.
