What is the deal with carbon fiber hoods? Are they really that much lighter? I can't see them saving more than 10-25 lbs over a stock hood and I can't see how that could justify the cost on a street car...maybe on a race car though.

I've seen tons of people spanking their e-peens over CF body parts on street cars. I personally don't get it. Even if you replace every panel on your car with a CF one - what will you drop, maybe 100-120 lbs? There are way more inexpensive ways to remove weight from a street car that aren't as permanent. Not to mention CF isn't going to behave the same way in a crash as the factory panels will. It's going to crack and fibers are going to be everywhere!

Sorry, rant off.

I'm not knocking you for the CF hood - I just don't get it.
