How about what I have in my Tahoe? It might be a little overkill for just a pistol. It's a magnum height dual drawer Truck Vault.

very NICE!!!

thought about putting a rifle vault in the pickup bed ... but my truck gets used for too many other functions to dedicate that much space.

a slimline case over the wheel well may be the ticket for me. but that still would solve issue of protecting a pistol. it'd be bad to draw attention to yourself putting pistol in the bed.

looks like a trip to Sportsworld before ordering is next...

I got one of those little pistol safes that have a cable that connects to the frame of the seat.
I don't leave my pistol in it all that often or all that long. But it works good enough.

been reading about all the recent pistol thefts from cars....

getting ready to order a "Gunvault GV1000D-DLX Mini Vault Deluxe Gun Safe" at Amazon for $91 w/free shipping.

only need to store one pistol safely in the rare instances. there's a need to briefly leave my pistol inside my truck.

this one has the very desirable feature of opening with a combination by touch. are there any better options out there?

I have that very safe, under my bed rather than in my truck though. It has both the combination lock, as well as a key.
Mine is still on it's first set of batteries, I've had it for 3-4 years now (admittedly, it doesn't get opened real frequently).
For an additional $9 you can get a cable from Academy to secure it, that hooks through an existing hole in the gunvault.

Randy I really like that setup. However can you legally carry your AR15 in your truck like that where ever you go? Again I am new to guns so pardon the ignorance.

I can since the Tahoe is used as my patrol vehicle sometimes. I think that magazine loaded long guns are accetable in the trunk of a vehicle for everyone else.
