I need to have a my Larue 9.0 rail installed on my AR. In doing so I also need my FSB shaved down and re-profiled. Who here can do that or who do you recommend?

Thanks,
Rob

Send Josh-L a PM - he's probably the closest person to you. Steve Baldwin in Jones will do it as well I believe.

The last upper Rob brought me almost broke my wrench so I won't work on his stuff anymore! LOL In all seriousness Rob I'd either send it to Steve in jones or Robb Jenson on M4C. I hate chopping FSBs or I'd offer to do it since we couldn't get the last one off.

Because the standard front sight post/gas block and barrel are essentially mated to each other when they are properly assembled. The standard front sight post actually makes a quite dandy low-profile gasblock. And it's included in the cost of the rifle!

Cutting down the FSB is way better in most cases. I bought a clamp-style screw-down VLTOR low-profile gas-block to avoid the set-screw type and its a pain due to how large the bottom is (clearance on my DD Lite quad rail was a micrometer or so) because of the side-ways screws that clamp it down instead of set-screw vertical screws that go up against the barrel.

The FSB is pinned to the barrel and once you cut it down, its still more solidly mounted to the barrel than just about any gas-block out there.

After we mangled the teeth on that barrel nut I took a pipe wrench to it. It came right off. The guy that rebarreled that upper did not put any moly grease on the receiver threads.

Anyway, I can cut my own FSB down. I just don't have the tools to pull the barrel off anymore. I really should buy another block and wrench as much as I like to change uppers around though.

I'll call Steve Baldwin.

Thanks,
Rob

What tools do you need to borrow?

Alright, I'm putting the rail on hold. I'm just going to simply swap receivers at this point. Is there anyone in Stillwater that can help, for a fee, me swap receivers around? I really need to borrow someone's tools/vice/workbench but I can do the work or pay someone to do it. It would be beyond super-cool if I could do it today.

Thanks,
Rob
