Self defense. I walk my dog in the evening and I enjoy having the protection. Walking after work in the winter - in the dark - is spooky. Never know what is going to happen.
AFter hearing some of these young people justify their crimes - i realized you cannot talk or reason with them - only thing left is to protect yourself and those you love.
Funny thing, i have always had shotguns and my wife did not like them but did not say much. when i first started carrying a pistol, she did not like it but did not say a lot.
after i shared with her the articles on attacks, anywhere, anybody, any time - she now asks me if i have it on me when we go out and it not i go back and get it.

For my Mrs and me it was after reading the gun laws and some of the dumb crap on transportation. We both like to shoot and were afraid some jerk might decide that we weren't attending target practice or headed to a recognized event...etc. On top of that when Bow hunting you can't carry a side arm without a CCW and I NEVER GO IN THE WOODS WITHOUT AT LEAST A SIDE ARM and a few things to help in the event of an injury or delayed return. While considering those things we also got to see that a whole lot of bad things happening to normal folks just sitting at home - We started paying attention to the news and got scared. However we are selective in carry - I know, I know - Semper Paratus. But wielding much power requires much restraint and care in all situations. I don't yet trust myself and don't feel trained enough yet to decide who lives and who doesn't in marginal circumstances.
I was pretty much the baddest dude walking around. I decided I wanted to be the baddest dude walking around with a gun. Pretty simple really. Carrying a gun will make you a sexual tyrannosaurus like me.

I've been a licensed armed PI for 21 years so I was carrying long before ccw licenses were available.I got my ccw because,in the beginning,if you had one you didn't have to do the NICS check when buying a firearm.I've kept it because of the reciprosity with other states that my PI license doesn't provide.
