I went back and read the article...didn't watch the video but the direct quote from the article is as follows.

"Cleo Land is an employee at Heartland Outdoors in Edmond and has over 30 plus years of experience as an Edmond police officer. He said he worries those like Wesselhoft have the wrong message.
"I prefer the element of surprise when it comes to carrying firearms," Land said.
Land said he believes openly carrying a weapon won't deter criminals but instead make those who choose to openly carry a target.

Two big points before I get all up in arms about Heartland. (my mistake for making an assumption before first cup of coffee is gone).

1). Mr. Land is an employee, so that doesn't mean "Heartland Outdoors" as an entity is against open carry.

2). Mr. Land, in the context of the article, does not state that he is against the open carry legislation. He states a personal opinion about the actual practice of open carry.

He's actually close to my feelings. I don't think the practice of open carry is a wise choice for me....but I don't oppose the legislation.

Just some thoughts before we get out the pitchforks and torches.

Great post, so someone with 30 plus years as a LEO (more than probably anyone posting here) makes a valid point (not saying i do or don't agree with him) in a calm logical manner, who happens to work at heartland (which i have had nothing but positive experience with) and people are ready to boycott the store, seriously... and i thought my wife was the hypersensitive one, but ya'll have her beat....

But wait, many here have already crucified Heartland for the statements, and they were wrong?

OH NO, MOB HYSTERIA.....

Surely you aren't so naive that you realize that FB post was a direct result of this post. The owner was smart enough, after reading this, to realize he allowed an employee to screw the pooch.

OK if the law is passed it does not say you have to open carry, so why so many against it? If you dont want to carry it out in the open don't do it. I would not open carry but I would not have a problem if others did.

+1

Passing the law just gives us back the choice that should be ours in the first place. It's not going to force people to open carry.

There are millions of people that do not conceal carry although they could. It's a choice.

I don't plan on open carrying myself, but I feel it should be my choice to make and not the government's.

I hope it passes. At least that way, if my shirt rides up and exposes my pistol, it's ok.

"Heartland Outdoors" proper is NOT against open carry.

One of their employees merely stated his opinion.....one that has been repeated by many others in this thread.

On top of that, you have people posting that training should be required, etc, etc, etc, ignoring that whole phrase, "shall not be infringed" and still have the audactity to call for a boycott of Heartland Outdoors!

Such hypocrisy. :nutkick:

I'll continue to support Heartland Outdoors, as I suspect anyone with any common sense will, too.
