That's fine. To me, leaving your doors unlocked is the same as leaving them wide open with a note on the windows that says "Free Stuff". They put locks on the doors for a reason. Do you also leave the doors to your home unlocked even when you leave? I see no difference.

So if my pockets are not locked my wallet is public property?

Same thing happened to me. My old Buick was locked. They stole my older car years ago and the police took the info over the phone. They found it 3 weeks later at an apartment complex by an off duty officer. They thought it was gang initation.

Upon further inspection, they've buggered the whole thing trying to get it started. It can run, but will cost me some cash to replace the parts. I am NOT getting rid of my good running, paid off car over this!

Now, if anyone knows a good place for dash parts, etc., I'd love to hear it!

I'm gonna buy 15 acres of land in the bloody middle of nowhere and live in a hut.

I live on 5 acres out in the middle of nowhere. Trust me, crime still happens out here. My shop was broken into a few months ago. No "city" jurisdiction so county is only law enforcement. One of the biggest (area wise) counties in the state and they have like 4 deputies patroling at any one time. The biggest city in the county is about 30 miles away - that's where probably 3 of the 4 deputies are patrolling...

Damage may be less than your deductible, still sucks. I keep everything I own in my garage or shop. They might try and break in but they sure would have a hard time driving or carrying it away. Had a car several years ago that got broken into but I had left it unlocked, no damage done only took a pack of really old cigars, kids is what I think, bet those cigars made them sick.
