An interesting choice for an engine that hasn't been mentioned would be a 4 cylinder deisel engine like a old mercedes engine or cummins out of a bread van. It would be a rugged long life engine with excellent torque and good mpg. Of course paying someone else to do the work would be kinda pricey. The ford 302 could possibly be the cheapest way to go. A Chrysler 360/318 would be a very easy drop in V-8 option(engine mounts might be available as Jeeps used Chryler engines for may years). You could even put a chevy 4.3 v6 or a ford 4.0 v6.
The great thing about your jeep is that all of the previously mentioned carburated engines wouldn't be that difficult of a swap and would provide good power and reliability.

Well if you decide to do the swap yourself, I have a cherry picker and engine stand you can borrow. I also have every tool needed to do the swap

Red, I really do appreciate that offer.

A solid classic..

Thanks, Lurk.

Looks hopeless to me........want me to just come get it out of your way:rubhands:

Looked hopeless to me too when I started this thread, but there's some really good people on here. And no, Eric, but I do appreciate your support in offering to come over and drag the corpse off to your garage…

Guess I'm going to have to fix the damned thing myself. Thanks for everyone's suggestions and offers to help. It's really great to know there's help out there.

Jerry, I have a couple of good friends that are mechanics and are very good and very reasonable. Be glad to set you up with contact info if you need just PM me. They are dealership guys that do a lot of stuff on the side.

That's a great looking Jeep, not too many around of that era that nice, good luck with it.

Hey, Eric, thanks a lot. If you wouldn't mind dropping me that contact information in a private message, I would certainly appreciate it.

Sounds like you just need to trade me the cj for guns. :D My wife did get on to me for having too many guns, but she hasn't gotten on to me for too many jeeps.
