I saw someone on TV building an AK-47 that didn't have a removable silencer, but the entire barrel was a silencer (of sorts). The show was Sons of Guns.

What is it that requires a tax stamp? Does a quiet gun require a class 3 stamp? Is it the attached silencer?

Just wondering if someone could clarify for me.

I beleive all the guns you will see on Sons of Guns are NFA, It's just what they do because thats where the money is.

Liked the Flame thrower on todays show but don't want to build a duce (just in case any of you asked me to)

So in this case the suppressor cannot be removed, as it is the barrel. Would it require a stamp for a supressor? What justifies the stamp?

A suppressor (anything that reduces the sound), a machinegun, a short barreled rifle/shotgun, or a destructive device all require NFA registration and a $200 tax paid. The stamp is affixed to your paperwork to show the tax has been paid.

The suppressor still requires a tax stamp, even if it is permanently attached to one firearm, and even if that firearm would not be an otherwise NFA controlled item.

Permanently attaching a suppressor to a regular cash and carry rifle does not give the suppressor a free ride that it transfers on just a NICS check. I'm assuming even though it is permanently attached to the host weapon, their suppressor carries its own serial number and manufacturer's information for form 1/form 4 purposes.

You assume correctly. :)
