Another member had a firearm for sale in the classifieds that I was interested in, I p.m.'d him and we made a deal, I had to meet him at a pawn shop to pick it up. I thought he just needed the money to get it out of pawn but the clerk asked him when he walked in if had figured out what to do with it? He replied that he was going to sell it to me. Then the clerk gave me a 4473 to fill out and after that he handed me another paper and told me to read it and sign it? It was a paper stating that I was buying the gun from a guy that was prohibited from buying or possesing a firearm and I was buying it from him and could not give it to him or sell it to him or loan it to him for any reason. I have never seen that or heard of that before and was just wondering if anyone else here had ever seen that before?

He probably pawned it, and couldnt get it out of hock, since they run a 4473 then. So, it was sell it to you for probably more than he got in pawn, or take the loss.

It was a used gun and he had pawned it. I saw the actual pawn ticket. I should have asked but I was in a hurry to get back to work and just took the gun and gave him the $$.

So you take in your gun to pawn and you pay your interest etc and then when you want to get it out, you have to have a background check to get your own gun back?

Wow... our government works so well doesn't it.

I guess this should be a lesson to people who don't want their guns on paper... don't ever pawn them.

Yeah, but what about this part?

It was a paper stating that I was buying the gun from a guy that was prohibited from buying or possesing a firearm and I was buying it from him and could not give it to him or sell it to him or loan it to him for any reason.

Just hocking it and not being able to get it back doesn't mean he can no longer legally own anymore guns.

I think that it is a fair deal that they have to do a 4473 on the gun. If you want to use your gun as collateral and not have it on paper then ask a friend to front you the money. The pawn shop is just covering theirs.

I think you should post feedback.

I suppose, but it's gotta suck pawning your gun and then finding out you can't own it when you want it back lol. I guess they are following FFL rules for transfer.

What are the requirements for transfer from an indiviudal TO an FFL? Whatever those requirements are would apply when taking out the pawn wouldn't they?
