I don't fault LEO for doing what they felt was appropriate to get him under control with causing the least possible harm to himself or the officers.

What long term lasting effect does pepper spray have??? Hopefully it's the impression that he can't get away with acting that way.

They did the right thing IMO plus I wouldn't let him come back until he received a mental evaluation, order the mother the parent to parenting classes and bring paperwork back before letting him back.

If my dad caught me failing to obey the orders of a police officer at 8 years old, the pepper spray would have been pleasant compared to what he'd have done when we got home, not to mention the extra punishment for acting like a little ass in class.

Someone needs to teach the mom about life lessons. Her son got one and hopefully he learned it the first time! :(

Seconds this..

And the tazer...

Being parents forget what spanking is good for these days..

I just don't know about the police pepper spraying a kid that age. How hard is it to grab an 8 year old kid and immobilize him? I dunno. It just seems like a little much. I wasn't there though and I sure as hell don't trust the media to give me the truth.
It's a catch-22 for the responding officer. They are likely to be demonized just as much for using physical force on a child as they are using pepper/tazer, no matter how much it is or is not justified.

Get off my lawn.
I wouldn't have remembered the pepper spray when I woke up from the home punishment. I was never abused not even close, but I knew the consequences of my actions. The consequences of these actions would not be pleasant though.

They should give the mom a shot of pepper spray too. A lot of kids have no respect these days. The biggest reason for that behavior is lack of proper raising at the house.

I fall into the camp of worrying about what my Dad would do to me as well. I ran into a problem with local law enforcment when I was a kid and all I remember about dealing with the cops was that my Dad couldn't kill me as long as they had me!

I'm not a huge fan of dealing with police even now but the pepper spray was the right move and it is definitely a no win situation for the officer. I've got nephews that are a little older than this kid and they know to toe the line or it's going to cost them, this notion is what this kid and his worthless mother are missing. Consequences are the solution to this problem.
