The Handi rifles used to be the king of bargain guns.
With a little tinkering and slightly different shooting technique they are great little guns.
But of late they have been creeping up in price.
So bargains can still be had on used ones, but if the prices keep going up not so much.
For anyone who shoots handi's a little time over on Greybeards forum will cure most problems you have.

I would highly recommend a howa 1500 houge combo really nice rifle accurate and topped with excellent glass it's japanesse (nikko sterling ) and really the best part of the deal. They are exremelly affordable I bought mine in 22-250 for another back up p dog rifle (around 450'out the door at outdoor america okc
And it keeps proving it's reliability and usefulness I've actually been carrying it my ranch truck alot lately they come with a houge overmolded (rubberized ) stock and are available in a
Couple of colors and calibers from .204
Ruger to .338 win mag. Short barreled and light the have been the best value for the money I have found ! I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one again ! As far as caliber .308 win is more than adequate IME for any thing in ok shoots flat enough if you practice and know your equipment and load ! I have been looking for those scopes to buy as pull offs they are that nice the best part of the deal IMO

Good luck and happy shooting

The Axis is a different action and as I understand, it's not very upgradable compared to the Savage 110 which the Stevens action is.
