I was at Lake Hefner awhile back and watched some of the people out there kiteboarding. I love to wakeboard and ski but I don't own a boat, so I figured kiteboarding would be the way to go. I know the inital cost will be expensive but definitely cheaper than buying a boat and having to pay insurance, maintenance and gas.

Do we have any members on here that do it? If so, what advice can you give to someone wanting to get started?

Is there anyplace in OKC that rents out equipment?

Beware - It is my experience that the purchase of a Kiteboard, or a new, red Dodge Challenger, are two separate paths that commit an individual to the way of douchebaggery and general $h!theadedness. Your experience may vary.

I'm with ya Gmar, I'd like to give it try as well. I've heard is super duty physical. You have to be a good wind surfer, a good two handed kite flyer, and strong as hell. They start you on land, from what I've heard, and the first thing you do is learn to fly that kite. I hear its around 1000 to 1500 to get started.... that may have gone up.

I used to power kite and fly dual line sport kites. With the power kites we'd use specialized 3 wheeled buggies that you steer with your feet. There's some open fields around Hefner that we actually would do this on. The all-terrain boards in this video are a bit more difficult to get used to, but still fun.

For buggy'n a quad-line kite is better as you have more control. A dual line can get caught up in the middle of the wind window and sometimes it's hard to get it out.

Its not that expensive! 3-500 for a Kite to learn on then a few hundred for a board unless you already have a wakeboard! Half that used! Sun and Ski used to do training classes years ago not sure about that now. If you go down there look for and old white van normally rockin to some 80's metal. He has classes and can answer every question you have about it.
