Truth be known, I only have $300 in my colt gold cup. If you are patient and trade up for profit, you can get a reasonable deal on a fine colt pistol. If you have to have it right away, I second the range officer.

For listening to someone who has experience from 'Mild to Wild' I would listen to GM thunder.
For myself I would save up and get this when it comes out:
http://www.cz-usa.com/products/view/dan-wesson-specialist/
Or a Colt Combat model (been a while since I checked their website.
Most of DW's internal parts are now billet and made by EGW.
The way you have limited yourself now to such a cheap gun its like flipping a coin...you take your chances. In 1911s you get what you pay for or pay later to upgrade.
I am not criticising your budget , just stating the reality.
Respectfully yours,
Barry

Well Doc, your opinion doesn't mean jack to me, just because a 1911 didn't cost 1500.00+ does not mean it's a POS! There are several brands/models for much less that are fine weapons, I guess some must spend more to compensate for something else.

I don't believe he stated this....but....... that man has probably forgotten more about 1911s than you'll probably care to know. No matter what way you spin it he's right though. You have a LOT of variables in a number of production guns. This isn't to say you can't find a good one, only that your chances lessen in that price range. Those that have shot a good number of rounds through various 1911s and rely on experience rather than gunshop employee lore, know this. :D

+1

My .02, I have an STI Spartan that is a range gun and it sure is fun to shoot. First mod I would recommend though is a trigger.

Dude,

Doc knows more about 1911's than just about anyone on this forum. He NEVER gives bad 1911 advice. I can understand your hesitance to spend more than you're comfortable with, but that doesn't mean you need to be rude about it.

You already stated that you want to spend up to $800. Why not buy a $450 1911 instead? Probably because you want the best you can get in your price range. However, saying that guns above your price range aren't any better or spending more is a way of compensation is a way to justify your price range, and a poor one at that.

I've already posted where you can find an excellent 1911 that was only slightly above your range and met all your other criteria, at a place known to treat customers right. Seems to me you've been given all the advice you're willing to listen to, so good luck!

I have had a couple of kimbers and they were okay. But like the wise wolf has stated S&W make a damn fine 1191. I shot his in a match one time and it was a great experience. They would surly be in my possible purchase list.

Well...you have definitely lowered the level and proven to everyone that you "have no couth"-lol.

You also don't know "squat " about 1911s...if you did you would know that I was trying to save you some aggravation and steer you toward a pistol that would serve you well for many years without a bunch of upgrades, and making your pistol a "lifetime project!" All of which would eat up a lot of valuable time, energy, and dollars. Since you seem to be on a budget it and it would be worth your while to get into a gun that you don't have to worry about , or upgrade, or ***** about the cost . It is more important to buy well when you are on a budget!!! I think you need an M&P , or an XDM which would definitely be within your means, maybe even a Glock (no disrespect meant here Glocktogo), and give you some dough left over to buy ammo to improve your shooting skills.
So, lets wind this up here by returning the compliment:
"Well Jayd, your opinion doesn't have to mean jack to me" since I can build a $3800.00 1911 that will perform admirably, the way it was designed too, at cost.. I am not some "bean counter " at the factory that is reducing quality to save costs. For example, Kimber probably has all of $60-70 in materials for their MIM parts in their pistols excluding frame and slide. Now, lets get serious here...There are times in peoples lives when they have to be on a budget whether by choice or necessity. If I was trying to shame you or knock what's left of your "Dick" in the dirt I would have suggested a Wilson Combat or Nighthawk for $3000. If you were thin skinned or thought I was trying to embarrass you you should have PM'd me directly and I would have been more than willing to explain my position either privately or publicly to correct any misconception!...
I think I'll quit here since I don't have to lower the level and get in the gutter with you, but you need to think before you open your mouth and insert your foot.

Barry
