"Well Doc, your opinion doesn't mean jack to me, just because a 1911 didn't cost 1500.00+ does not mean it's a POS! There are several brands/models for much less that are fine weapons, I guess some must spend more to compensate for something else. "

Well...you have definitely lowered the level and proven to everyone that you "have no couth"-lol.

You also don't know "squat " about 1911s...if you did you would know that I was trying to save you some aggravation and steer you toward a pistol that would serve you well for many years without a bunch of upgrades, and making your pistol a "lifetime project!" All of which would eat up a lot of valuable time, energy, and dollars. Since you seem to be on a budget it would be worth your while to get into a gun that you don't have to worry about , or upgrade, or ***** about the cost . It is more important to buy well when you are on a budget!!! I think you need an M&P , or an XDM which would definitely be within your means, maybe even a Glock (no disrespect meant here Glocktogo), and give you some dough left over to buy ammo to improve your shooting skills.
So, lets wind this up here by returning the complement:
"Well Jayd, your opinion doesn't have to mean jack to me" since I can build a $3800.00 1911 that will perform admirably, the way it was designed too at cost.. I am not some "bean counter " at the factory that is reducing quality to save costs. For example, Kimber probably has all of $60-70 in materials for their MIM parts in their pistols excluding frame and slide. Now, lets get serious here...There are times in peoples lives when they have to be on a budget whether by choice or necessity. If I was trying to shame you or knock what's left of your "Dick" in the dirt I would have suggested a Wilson Combat or Nighthawk for $3000. If you were thin skinned or thought I was trying to embarrass you you should have PM'd me directly and I would have been more than willing to explain my position either privately or publicly to correct any misconception!...
I think I'll quit here since I don't have to lower the level and get in the gutter with you, but you need to think before you open your mouth and insert your foot.

Barry
Well Doc, you obliviously don't recognize an insult when you see one. Your comment about "a cheap gun" is an insult to several people, not everyone not has an unlimited budget. I would be happy to go head to head with you at a range with my cheap POS, we might be able to see which is the best!

I appreciate all the responses, my goal was to find out if there were any brand/models to stay away from. Most manufactures have made some mistakes on some models and it can help to hear about any flaws from other owners.

Unfortunately there are some out there that think they are superior to the rest and their opinion is the only one that counts. You can't make a "silk purse out of a sows ear", if you suck as a shooter no amount of money will make you a top marksman.

Obviously you are "challenged" and don't understand what it takes to put a quality 1911 together. You can have up to $1800 in parts and finishing alone without labor. You can have anywhere from 15 to 40 hours in labor in a "quality " 1911. When I said that the category of pistol you were looking at was a "cheap" one ...it is a cheap 1911! I didn't say you were cheap and I didn't imply you were cheap. However, you have done a spectacular job of putting yourself in that category without my help and trying to pass it off as me slandering a whole category of 1911 gun owners -ROFLMAO.
In your first post you stated that you wanted quality and accuracy first and cost and resale second ...nice if you can find it but not easy to find within your budget. You could not grasp why the Ruger was $600-700 and the Springfield was $800 to $1000. Makes perfect sense if you know that the Ruger is investment casting and the Springfield is a forging. Later in the thread you said that "you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear" ...well I've done it with a RIA and the customer had $950 plus the cost of the base pistol in it, and without a match barrel . If you do the quick math, and if you know the approximate real world costs of the RIA and a match barrel with installation you are at $1900. So tell me ...How am I insulting you when I suggest a DW for $1870 retail with all the best parts in the pistol? And, you get to shoot it from day one without having to wait 6 months to get your pistol back from a custom 1911'smith. If you wait and save up for the better pistol you get your quality, accuracy, and better resale.
Then you turn around and want to have a shooting contest to prove that you and your "equipment" are better. I don't think that I have been exposed to anything more childish and immature and less focused in the last 20 years...You would probably piss into the wind and then wonder why you got wet. I am going to treat myself and borrow a quote from Glocktogo..."Dude" ....you need to grow up. And when I say grow up it has nothing to do with shooting skills ...it's how your brain works and the chip on your shoulder. If you can't afford it and /or don't want to save up for that level of quality just say "sorry that's not for me." To have you rant just because I suggested a better quality of pistol for you is absolutely bizarre.

Well I guess all of us “Poor Boys” feel much better knowing that money talks and BS walks. I’m willing to have a heads up shoot out using an obliviously inferior weapon, even if it may mean I can’t shoot worth a crap. Of course there’s no way to know if it’s the weapon or the shooter that sucks without a real test!

Your reference to DW does not fall on deft ears, I own a DW 15-2 set and it’s my favorite pistol, oh wait, the whole set with 4 barrel’s only cost me 575.00 not 1500.00+ for a Colt Python. Ok I admit I would love to have a Python, just can see paying the price. DW definitely makes a top quality weapon, wish I had more in my collection.

I must be "deft" because I've always heard that cliche differently. :D
