Must be different rules for different towns. My grandson had been given a ticket for an expired license plate. He didn't pay the ticket and I believe it was 60 days later his license were suspended (for not paying the ticket)without him even knowing it. Guess what..the cops knew it and he was pulled over on his way to work on the very day they were suspended. He was cuffed and arrested on the spot and his truck was tolled. A few months later and a few hundred dollars later he got his license back...Pretty good lesson and he also got his picture in Jail Bird..

Really? The person was breaking the law and hurt someone else. The cost alone, of being cuffed and stuffed, would make the person think twice...Maybe.

If this were true, should even a simple seat belt bruise, air bag burn, whiplash, or other minor soft tissue injury be an arrestable offense?

Do you work for a for-profit prison or something? Sheesh. :uhwhat:

Beats the hell out of me! My niece was rear ended, her car totaled and she was hospitalized for 2 days. The guy who hit her was a probable illegal according to the cop, he had no license, not even an ID, no insurance, and supposedly didn't speak any english. Not only was he not arrested but he wasn't even cited. The cop said it would be a waste of time as he wouldn't pay it or show up in court anyway! Can you believe that crap?
I believe that I would have been pushing for the cop to do more, if he still didn't, I would be speaking with a supervisor.

I understand that cops deal with this more frequently than most and can probably tell you what will happen in 90% of these situations but that still does not mean they don't have to do their job. Do you mind me asking where this took place?

My wife and I were in an accident where the other person did not have their insurance verification with them. No damage to our car so the cop wanted to just have us exchange information and handle it ourselves because "if he wrote a report it would show up on our record that I was involved in an accident." Thank you sir, but I would like a report. I don't care if it shows up on my record I was involved in an accident, at least if something comes of it, it won't be my word against theirs, there will be a record of the instance.

As a matter of fact, I don't. You can be arrested for assualting someone. And the charge is upgraded if you send them to the hospital.

Remember, we elected the people that took the suggestion from the Ins. industry that there should be a law requiring ins. Those same people were either stupid or bought off when they did not put a requirement in the law that required the ins. company to notify the state when a policy was canceled either by them or the customer. Upon notification the state would have a time limit placed on them to visit the person with canceled ins. and confiscate his license plate. It wouldn't take long to stop some of the nonsense once people realized there were consequences to their stupidity.

I wonder if the state making us buy car ins. is un-constitutional

This is not how it works anymore. They quit the automatic reporting some years back. I don't know about the reasons why, but it just doesn't happen anymore. You will still get suspended for driving without insurance, but you have to be caught doing so before you are suspended. It's not automatic anymore. And requiring you to by insurance is cool with me. If you don't want to pay for the insurance, don't drive. Pretty simple if you ask me.

Remember driving is a privilege, not a right. You use public streets and highways to drive on so the state has a little say about it.

Driving under suspension is a jailable offense. The last I heard it was a $500.00 fine and up to a year in the County Jail.

I agree that there are not enough people put in jail for DUS and no insurance, but when the jail administrator or County Sheriff tells you not to bring anyone to jail unless it's a major offense (felony) due to overcrowding, what can you do? Where are you going to put them? Who is going to babysit them while they wait for bond to be posted? This is the problems LE face when they try to enforce the laws the way they were intended. These are the things I was told when I was doing the arresting.

And then LE get the blame for "not doing their job".
