If it's trucked in the same as the grocery chains, what's the point? I thought Farmer's markets were for local products.

Know what is in season and you can spot the fakes. I frequent farmers markets and I always spot the California and Mexico trucked produce.

The prices are insane at most of them. I often find better deals on organic produce at health food stores.

The prices do seem high...I know if the food is prepared in any, not just raw goods, it must be prepared in a commercial kitchen, so I guess they are trying to recoup some of the cost?

Yeah, alot of people at the farmers markets are scamming. There are many legitimate folks there too. We go to the one in Edmond occasionally and always buy from the same couple of people.

Yeah, I saw it last year too. Asked some fella how come he was selling produce from Mexico and he said he wasn't ... he just "borrowed" the box ... So he borrowed a hundred boxes?!?! We don't buy at farmer's markets anymore. I just watch Wal-Mart for the "locally grown produce" signs. Not that they couldn't lie about it too but at least they don't taunt me with the "Grown in Mexico" boxes ...
