wasn't it bear safes that aren't UL listed or have a RSC rating? Not that I have any doubts about a bear safe but some insurances will require the safe to carry at least an RSC rating and the fact that Bear Safes don't have that (I think) might mean a denied claim for you if they get stolen

Depending on what your looking to spend, I've started building safes periodically. Whatever thickness of steel you want. Lock setup exactly the same as bear safe. Powdercoated in whatever color you choose. But the kicker, I put a layer of heavy 2000* ceramic kaowool insulation . Layer of 1200* insulation and 1 layer of 5/8 firerock in it. It also has a fiberglass type door seal gasket that has a 2000* operational capability. I'm a welder by trade so I just wasn't happy with what they were selling for what they wanted price wise.

I've been looking at safes and want to pick one up as well... brands aside, can someone tell me what is wrong w/the digital locks? I know that they are easier to get into, so if it's the difference between 5 seconds to open vs 1-2 minutes to open won't I use the digital more? Plus the combo is easier to remember, etc... Are digital locks that unreliable? Lots of people who I've spoke to who sell safes prefer digital...

Just looking to educate myself more. :)

Thanks
