My cousin asked what everyone thought about OC on his facebook page. It's pretty much pro answers but there is some troll posting about how studies show how countries that don't have guns have no gun crime now. Anyone know where to find stats on Australia, etc?

An aspect that a lot of people forget is that individual-on-individual crime is only one part of the picture -- you must also consider the possibility that an unarmed populace is more susceptible to state tyranny. Being that all the worst crimes in history were committed by governments against unarmed subjects, it is no small consideration. I am personally of the opinion that even if we would have less individual-on-individual crime with gun control, I would still be against it because of the increased risk of state-on-individual crime, which is much worse and much more dangerous in my book. The problem with gun control schemes is that they are always directed at everyone EXCEPT the most dangerous potential criminals of all, and the ones we need to watch the most.

If you want some good statistics, here is a great website about democide: http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/MURDER.HTM

I'm told that the Republic of North Korea has a very low crime rate. The rate in the old Soviet Union was quite low also until people were allowed more freedom. Maybe its freedom we need to ban and not firearms.

Der. You want to argue with that?

MLR said it. It's not about ownership. It's about freedom.

What makes him/her a troll? They don't agree with you?

Well I know there has been alot of recent stories run about people in the UK calling in false police reports and then killing the unarmed officers when they arrive on scene. I cant believe their police don't carry a gun, that just doesn't seem smart at all.

When talking abut crime rates, also look at punishment for said crimes. If death is a more common punishment for lesser crimes, crime rate will drop. Crime rates go up when someone can murder and get out in 2 years like in the US of Asskicking. Extreme punishment=less crime. Lesser punishment=more crime.

since we have brought up the death penalty....I do not believe the death penalty should be viewed as "punishment" rather it is the only way to be absolutely certain an individual will not do it again....that makes it a preferential sentence for murder ---pedophiles---serial rapists--etc...the death penalty simply protects society from those individuals that cannot be punished/rehabilitated....therefore must be removed...

Yep & they should do away with the ability to appeal so many times they die of old age on death row too. Far too much taxpayer money wasted on criminals who simply can not be rehabilitated or ever become functioning/contributing members of normal society.
