The way I see it is that if he is not breaking any laws, harming other people or actually attempting to pass himself off as a police officer he should be free do do whatever he wants. To many of us believe that there should be restrictions placed on others for what they might do instead of what they have actually done. So far he has done nothing wrong.

We are not talking about LEO's making arrests.. we are talking a civillian acting in self defense while in fear of serious injury or the loss of his / her life... there is a very big difference. If you had just attacked me with a weapon and I got the drop on you with mine.. yes, I would shoot you immediately if you refused to do exactly what I told you to do when I told you to do it. F-you would be the very last thing you would ever want to come out of your mouthQUOTE]

then you would spend the rest of your life playing checkers with jerome ersland

That is doubtful... but one thing is for certain....you wouldn't be around to say 'I told you so.'

Any civilian carrying handcuffs like that is an idiot. At the beginning of the month I had an opportunity to educate some people who were anti OC through a discussion. One of them being a LEO. They felt that open carry was dangerous because your gun could be taken from you and used against you. They cited the fact that police wear retention holsters and have to have special training on retaining their guns because periodically an officer gets shot with their own gun. I countered them with the explanation that a civilian will not find themselves in that situation as police officers are duty-bound to apprehend a perpetrator whereas a civilian is going to shoot and retreat or simply retreat. Most cops encounter trouble and potentially lose their guns when they're making an arrest. This guy basically blows that whole argument out of the water.

If you're somehow able to prevent a crime and can hold the guy at gunpoint without firing a shot great but don't put the guy in handcuffs. This is someone you felt threatened enough by that you felt the need to use deadly force against them. Why would you approach them to cuff them? Or why would you think they'd cuff themselves? At that point you'd be shooting an unarmed person who doesn't pose a threat to you (because if they were armed and posed a threat they'd have a hole or two in them).

Personally, I can think of only the most remotely possible scenario where I would hold someone at gunpoint. The vast majority of scenarios would result in either someone getting shot or someone walking away with the gun remaining in the holster.

Think the dude should of just left the cuffs at home, law enforcement routinely retrains on equipment like cuffs, and any other defensive tool for liabillity reasons, also kinda sounds like impersonating a officer, most people don't read badges they see badges and just roll with it.
