I just got off the phone with Coburn's office and I talked to the guy that answered the phone for a little bit and voiced my opposition to UBC, AWB, and high cap mag ban and he said that Dr. Coburn is opposed to the AWB, and high capacity magazine ban but was talking with other senators about extending background checks to keep guns out of the wrong hands. He said that he just wanted to let me know that part. So basically he IS in favor of UBC and will vote yes if the time comes. This really ticks me off. He also told me that Coburn does not want a national registry and I said that is what the UBC will lead to and he said that what he is discussing does not involve registration. Not very happy at the moment.

He may believe it does not involve registration, but he and his aides should be made aware that current POTUS and DOJ under Holder will view anything coming from Congress as a pass to execute all sorts of checks and snoops that will be de facto registration. For example...keeping NICs data in a registry database.
i plan to mention that in my call this week. Please consider doing so as well.
:)

I called and stated in no uncertain terms that Schumer isn't to be trusted and that I'm dissapointed that Coburn is even talking to him other than to tell him "No Deal". I also sent the GOA letter as well, just to reinforce the point.

Ask yourself this: why is it necessary to record the gun's serial number as part of a background check? Do details about the gun have one iota of relevance as to whether an individual is permitted to own a gun? It is, of course, about more than that.

I just did the same even though I just emailed him last night! Lets blitzkrieg the hell out of his inbox!

Thanks for posting that article Dale!

Here is what I know for sure so far:

Any legislation will originate from the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The committee meets for the first time this session tomorrow, Jan 30th, and the topic is “What Should America Do About Gun Violence?”.
DiFi is the second ranking member and says that she has been told by Pat Leahy that she will be allowed to attempt to amend any legislation by adding her AWB once the bill reaches the full senate.

If it passes the senate it would proceed to the HoR, although John Boehner has not indicated whether he will allow it to come up for a vote in the House.
Representative Paul Ryan expresses his support for a universal background check yesterday.

Ironically, the best way to kill UBC off is if it is amended to add the AWB which would make it toxic enough to kill both off together.

I just called his office and, after that conversation, I sure hope he is more informed than those who work for him!!

My gut feeling is that he will do what he wants to do regardless of what his constituents want.

Keep calling, maybe he will get the message if enough of us press the issue!!

I'm tired of people calling it a "loophole". It's not a loophole, there are background checks at gun shows. It's the private sellers that don't require background checks, just as if you met them at the local Wal-Mart to complete a transaction. They just happen to have a table at the gun show. Maybe gun shows should start excluding private sales? Either way, it doesn't really matter. They are just using the gun show "loophole" as a reason to push UBC.
