I agree with JD.
The govt. can and should publish a list(data base) of those who can NOT own a firearm under current law. We should never give them the power to determin who CAN own one through some form of liscencing or another.

I don't think the ID thing would work because they would still have their old IDs to trick people into thinking they haven't lost their rights.

I wish they would at least give us the option to do a background check on someone for no more than a couple dollars. I don't think UBC would be all that bad as long as you didn't have to give any serial numbers or even say it was for a gun transfer. Still the criminals will get their guns UBC or not. It just inconveniences the good guys at best so a requirement is unecessary just give us the option to run a background check on someone we don't know.

You already have the option. Your piece of mind will cost about 10 bucks.

The only way I could see a "UBC" working and not require mass registration would be to include it with a state issues ID, like a driver's license. If someone has lost their second amendment rights due to their own acts, then put an obvious marker on the ID, such as how the driver's license for a 19 year old indicates they cannot purchase alcohol.

The principle is simple, you don't have to track who is buying what is your 'pre-screen' everyone up front. Is it still a jab at the 2A, yeah, but it is the smallest one I can think of. Heck, it would even eliminate the need for 4473s.

By default, folks should be allowed to own firearms. the minute it becomes a State sanctioned right requiring an ID that can be taken away by the State, as opposed to a natural right, it is all downhill form there. There is no reason, IMHO, to require citizens to jump through hoops to be able to purchase a firearm.
Any more than citizens should be required to jump through hoops before they have the right to publish on the Internet.
Or have the right to practice the religion of their choice.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not disagreeing with you, this just happened to be the only idea I could come up with that could potentially stop the liberal feared purchase of firearms by bad guys, and do so without requiring paperwork per transaction, leading to a complete set of records on who owns what.

This was something I'd actually thought of too. Given the level of money sunk into the current pro-anti standoff, they could easily re-purpose a lot funding towards making state IDs more difficult to falsify. My initial thought was some kind of UV/black light activated seal or logo that any average joe could check with a filter on a flashlight.

At this point though, we're gnashing over the minutia. As we all know, a determined criminal will jump through (or circumvent) whatever hoops are put in place to get what they want to commit the deed they intend. Sticks and stone will break our bones, but our politician's words will never stop them.

We are not going to ever pacify the gun grabbers. Their idea of compromise is to give nothing, ask for 50% reduction in recognition of your rights, and then compromise at taking away only 25% of your rights AT THIS TIME.
Then they come back for more.
NOT ONE INCH MORE .

I was going to say the same before I read your post. We've given enough. When we give an inch they demand a mile. We're in a tug-of-war with the anti-gun crowd. We give away one of our people on the rope every time we compromise. Now isn't the time to go soft. If we don't hold the line they're going to end up taking it all. Not one inch more!

Exactly.
Having a national database being built over the next few generations is without a doubt the worse blow to the Second Amendment ever devised.

Background checks should be free. If they were free and I could do it from my phone or computer I couldn't complain. It still won't fix the problem the gun grabbers want it too.
