I walked in H&H about a week ago and they had a Gen 3 Glock 34 in the case. It was too high, but I bought it anyway just because no one local has them. Took me about 1 second to make up my mind. I held up my arms and said "Who wants to sell me a gun?" haha

I bought a pistol from them at market value and the salesman spent a great deal of time showing me the breakdown and had me try it a few times before sending me to the register. I am willing to pay the higher price if it was at hh to deal with staff that actually know the product versus academy or bass pro. (Worked gun counter with guys that didn't know what a 1911 was).

If I'm not mistaken, the letter referenced in the OP was put out in early January. Things have changed a little since the "great panic". The last gun I bought was there, and I paid a $30 premium because they were the only ones who had one in stock at the time I wanted to buy. I decided it was worth it to me.

The only thing that annoys me about H&H is they will not tell you over the telephone if they have a particular item in stock. You have to drive to the store to find out if they have the product in stock. That's an hour (or more) round trip for me, so I've wound up buying three pistols and two rifles since November 2012 at Academy.

That customer service comment is a crock of manure. I'vehad a bad experience once in the past and went in this week just to see if they had something small as I didn't want to wait on shipping, and I looked around and then tried to get help and I couldn't. There were 3 employees standing laughing in the corner and the I saw one employee in the isles and I motioned to get his attention and walked towards him and he turned around and walked away. In and out in 15 min with no hello, goodbye or interaction with an employee.

This was before the gun rush so they had time to be detailed with me. Couldn't say about now but the sales man was named John and he really cared about me knowing all there was about my pistol, but I guess if there's not a picture it didn't happen.

I recently purchased an AR at H&H at a very fair price.

EDIT: Sadly I decided it was a good day to see if I got the hole in my boat fixed. I took my new AR, super model girlfriend, and the formula for time travel with me. Unfortunately, the hole was not fixed, the boat sunk and I was the only thing that got away.
