Let me see...Our officials strongly suggested to everyone south of our open border there was going to be amnesty. A flood of illegals came across looking for anything they could get and swamping public facilities in the process. There by creating (in short order) a public crisis giving the administration impetus to act unilaterally under emergency power's bypassing Congress and the constitution in the process. Of course, the Democrats believe in the righteousness of their perspective. Because they believe that this mighty influx of humanity will increase their political power, and they're probably correct.

1. Want to change the status quo
2. Create a crisis
3. Force the desired change as the solution

I think that about sums things up.

I would like to set up a lemonade stand just on this side of the AZ / Mexico border. I have a feeling there will be A LOT of foot traffic there soon, and they will be thirsty.

Didn't Reagan and Bush both do amnesty for illegals?

Yes they did with the promise that congress would secure the border. Congress lied.

Sorry a correction.

Washington’s leading voice on this issue has long been Senator Jeff Sessions. Vilified by the Democratic Party on one side and the Chamber of Commerce and Silicon Valley billionaires on the other, his lonely crusade on behalf of America’s workers continues. Today, he asked unanimous consent to pass two immigration enforcement bills. The first would make the E-verify program mandatory for all employers, clarify that federal contractors and agencies must use it, and allow the Secretary of Homeland Security to require “critical employers” to use it. This legislation would also have increased penalties for employers who do not use the system when mandated, or continue to hire illegal workers.

The second bill would have made it harder for illegals to defraud the federal government by requiring applicants for the additional child tax credit to provide a Social Security number. This reform would save the federal government billions of dollars as well as ending the current, absurd situation where the government subsidizes the violation of our laws.

But the Democrats blocked both measures.

I dont have a problem.with what he says about executive action. If Congress aint going to do nothing about this problem, then ya get what he does.

Personally I wish Congress would just call a recess and go home.....THEY AINT DOING NOTHING ANYWAY. THEY SUCK AS BAD OR WORSE THAN OBAMA.

So you're theory of American government is that the President gives Congress a little courtesy time to enact enabling legislation for what he wants done and if Congress is "obstructionist" enough to not do his will then the President just takes "action" as he wills, existing law be damned?
My political theory may be a little dated nowadays but I believe that is known as autocracy.
BTW - does that apply to any issue the Pres believes is in need of action or just immigration?

Congress has the most powerful tool to reign in an overreaching executive branch, but every time they use it against a democrat president, the democrats and their cohorts in the media scream like little girls and republicans cower. And that is the power of the purse.

My only point is it would seem naive to just blame Dems for wanting votes and say Reagan was suckered(plausible deniability?) when it appears Repubs wanted amnesty for their reasons also, maybe both sides are at fault.

Bush spoke of labor needs and Reagan seemed to fear monger and spoke of not talking about a fence and open borders for workers...

Reagan/Bush Amnesty Agenda an Economic Catastrophe for Minorities and Legal Immigrants, 08/15/2012

We all know the consequences of this first great amnesty bill and those that followed: millions more illegal immigrants were lured into the U.S. in hopes of future amnesties (many to agonizing deaths in the desert), flooding the unskilled labor pool and reducing minorities and legal immigrants to poverty and economic desperation. Meanwhile, to no one's surprise, border security was neglected, and Big Business, in the pursuit of cheap labor and high profits, vigorously resisted all attempts at immigration job enforcement, particularly any means of enforcement, which would actually work to preserve jobs for minorities and legal immigrants, such as e-verify.

In the 1970s, for example, office buildings in Los Angeles hired union workers as janitors, paying high wages and substantial health and other benefits. Thengreedy businessmen thirsty for cheap labor and high profits began to hire independent contractors who in turn hired illegal immigrants. Within a year, wages were cut by two-thirds and benefits were eliminated.

In 1987, at a time when teenage unemployment among African Americans approached 80 percent [1] , greedy garment makers petitioned the INS to import more cheap labor on grounds that there was an "unskilled labor shortage", repeating the tired mantra that "Americans won't do the dirty work that illegal immigrants are willing to do"-- ignoring the fact that it isn't the dirty jobs that Americans disdain. Cities have no problem recruiting for the dirtiest of jobs, like garbage collection, when decent wages are offered. Most Americans would be willing to pay a few cents more for their tomatoes if it meant social justice for minorities and the legal immigrants who have been reduced to grinding poverty by the Reagan/Bush amnesty agenda.

Few did not see through President Bush's lame claim that his immigration plan was not amnesty because illegals would pay a $500 fine in order return for being allowed to jump the line for legal residency in front of the teeming millions waiting many years for legal entry, paying thousands for physical exams andbackground checks, or trying to a win a million to one immigration lottery. Why risk winning the lottery, when a winning ticket can be earned by illegal entry, identity theft, and felonious forgery of social security cards and other government documents in order to gain jobs that reduce wages of legal immigrants and minorities?

As immigration researcher Gary Imhoff has observed, illegal immigration "widens the differences between classes in the U.S.; it keeps down the price of hiring a maid or gardener for the rich while it makes thing more desperate for the poor."

You guys like to blame business for wanting more illegals but never mention that the unions are pushing for more too.

While I do agree that some Republicans want more illegals because it drives down overall wages, more and more have been turning against illegals while trying to find a way to fix the problem. Jeff Sessions (sp?) has been a leading example of trying to fix the problem the right way. The Dems block his every attempt.

And yes Reagan and other presidents have been duped by congress who promised that if the prez would just agree to make more legal, they would fix the border. Bush 2 bought the same crap but by then everyone knew better. Now Dohbama and cronies are pushing the same crap all over again.

I think that about sums things up.

Hegelian Dialectic - problem, reaction solution.

In this case, our government has intentionally created the problem, the compliant state-run media is showing the braindead populace how they should react (OMG - it's a humanitarian crisis!), and now we can all bend over and prepare for the solution. You can bet there will be blanket amnesty, regardless of what the liars on the Potomac say. The demographics of the United States is being intentionally changed.

He will do it whether it's legal or not,,,
Them get his toadie attorney general to say it's perfectly legal.
