When it came on TV in the early 1980's, I watched it and remember discussing it with a very liberal friend. He praised the sponsors of the film for their courage in sponsoring it. As I recall, that was on every liberal mind, it seemed: the 'courage' of the sponsors. I did not understand it then, and I still don't.

Still and all, it was a good movie. I have it on DVD.

Well, since the Air Force Plant at the airport became a bus factory, I doubt that we're even near a secondary nuke target anymore, and I'm far enough away from refineries that I'm not terribly worried about them getting hit.
I don't know where you are, but I'd bet that Tinker is still a prime target for the same reason it was back then--the AWACS facilities.
"The Day After" was a anti-nuclear weapons "Oh, my God! We're all going to die!" propaganda piece.
True, dat. I remember it making an impression at the time, but it wasn't a lasting impression. Heck, seeing one of the Visitors peel off his "human" mask in V around the same time made more of a lasting impression...

I'm far enough away from Tinker not to worry about it too much. I still remember how to do the downwind fallout predictions. And there wasn't such a thing as AWACS back when I learned that!

i can remember watching that when i was knee-high to a grasshopper. some of those scenes were engraved in my brain. i have the dvd now and watch it from time to time.

living in altus, surrounded by 12 icbm silos, i bet it was a scary time back in the early 60s.

Saw this as a kid, it left quite an impression on much of America, sparking protests and 'sit ins' at several missile sites.

On occasion, I still have a nightmare where I am in one of the detonation scenes.

You guys ever seen Threads? The Brits version of Day After and it's pretty dark. Very scary thing is if you replace "Iran" with "Ukraine" the story line is pretty similar to things happening today.
