I acquired a police return Mossberg 590A1 that definitely had been carried - the metal finish has numerous scratches, so it's a definite candidate for a Cerakote refinish. My question concerns the Speedfeed stock; it also has a number of scratches, mostly superficial, and the remains of a rack number label that left the surface rough underneath the label. I'd like to try and save the stock since it fits me nicely, and the unobtrusive shell storage is a neat feature.

Have you folks been able to remove scratches from such a stock? If so, how'd you do it? I'd prefer not to paint the stock, though a Cerakote refinish might be OK if it'll stay attached to the flexible plastic.

Short answer is yes. If you don't want to paint, start at about 200 grit wet/dry, and sand the entire surface. Use Coarse/0 steel wool for a final rubdown for uniform finish. My personal favorite, however, is spray-on truck bed coating, from Autozone or OReilley's (Walmart brand is a less defined surface, less "grippy"). Looks great, easy touch up, done with about $10 and minimal effort.

Thanks, Rob. What does the surface look like after you get done with the sandpaper and steel wool? Got any pics before you sprayed on the bed coating?
