Was looking at an older F250 today and it has the International IDI 6.9 diesel engine. Does anyone on here have any experience good or bad with this old engine? I was kind of surprised when it said diesel. I figured it would be a 460 gas motor and it peaked my interest but I am always leery of diesels for lack of good mechanics around here that know how to work on them. I plan on finding out tomorrow what year and miles and price BTW.

Thanks
Evan

If I bought it, I would probably never pull a trailer. I would put a tool bed/camper and work out of it. Probably be a daily driver but never more than 50 miles from home. I have my 4x4 dually V10 for pulling work.

It is a stick shift not sure how many speeds I'm guessing 5.

Most likely an np435.........really low granny and three "normal" gears. Start from second when driving in normal conditions. It's a non-syc transmission also, not smooth between shifts, but a near bullet proof tranny.

Good to know. I had an 83 half ton 4x4 once with a 5 speed but 1st was extremely low (granny) always said that if I put it in 4low and first gear I could stop the earth from spinning if I could keep traction. Lol

It's really low, similar to a T-18 you'll find in Jeeps, lower than a T-19. I've got a np435 in my 71' Bronco........ 1st is 6.68/1 IIRC.

With a little work and tuning, that 6.9 will pull your V10 and what ever your V10 pulls at the same time! As said above, rock solid engine, basically same torque as your V10, but has potential for gobs more!
