Not sure what complaints you are referencing, but as a sometime end user I like the improvements I see.

"The M9 doesn't meet it for a multitude of reasons," Easlick said. "It's got reliability issues; the open slide design allows contaminates in. The slide-mounted safety doesn't do well when you are trying to clear a stoppage -- you inadvertently de-cock and safe the weapon system."

The M9A3 has all of the features that my 92A1 does, and a couple of more, except maybe for the internal recoil buffer. I think the recoil buffer was a carryover from the 96 that Beretta decided to simply include in the 92A1. The Army should give Beretta a fair chance in the upcoming trials. My 92A1 is essentially a civilian version of the M9A3. This baby holds 18 bullets (one in the tube). There are many who complain about the M9's size. Even Hickock .45 bemoans the fact that it is large, he asserts "overbuilt for a 9mm." But I like it. I have taken to carrying it as a BUG in place of the Makarov. The only way I can conceal it is in the Kangaroo Air Marshall.

Just like what my dad said, any of the FN hammer fired pistols will work perfectly fine.
Preferably I'd go with the FNX-45 but the military doesn't give a damn what any civilian thinks.
Anyways, it would be a good choice for the fact it holds 14+1 of 45ACP, it's a good full size pistol in all circumstances, you can see it the weapon is cocked (they're are stupid people out there ya know), it's completely ambidextrous, and it already has a threaded barrel and suppressor sights.
That would honestly be the best pistol FOR THE MILITARY.
I'm not starting "what's the #1 pistol war" but for military standards, it would be an excellent choice.
