...I told the some woman her dog had just bit me, to which the belligerent heifer responded with an indignant "oh, he did NOT!"

It amazes me how many people love their dog more than other humans. I love dogs and will go out of my way to befriend them if they are amenable to it. But if my dog had bitten someone, I would be totally apologetic, help wash out the bite and offer to pay for medical care. To do otherwise is completely unacceptable.

Just got another call from my wife. Animal control tried making contact, but there was nobody home (or at least no one would come to the door) and there was no evidence of a dog outside. *insert shocked expression here*

The officer left a notice to call them and said they would try checking back another time.

I love my dogs more than a LOT of humans, but that's not the issue here. It's someone's inability to accept responsibility for their dog. Many people do th same with kids too. You hear....NOT MY CHILD!! all the time. In extreme cases, you see it on the news.

I don't understand. Why would shooting a dog that was attaching you be considered animal abuse?

If you're referring to my post, it would not. As was stated, the reminder was in reference to a now-deleted post that advocated an illegal method of dealing with the dog (which would also fall well outside of the realm of self defense).
