Yeah I would stick to that maintence schedule if you use it. I would run it twice a year to make sure its good to go and never leave fuel in it. No ethanol fuel & Run it till it turns off then put it up.

Looks like the kids found one at Tractor Supply. They are mostly woried about all the meat in the freezer...I told them to just put it in a box and set it outside for the night with something heavy on it to keep the mutts out. I mean; it's not like it's gonna thaw out tonight out on the back porch you know. Then open a bottle of wine, build a fire, and grab a blanket by the fireplace. But nooooo, old Pops don't know shizz it seems.

Years ago, my family put some frozen food in the tub of our old Maytag wringer washer on the back porch when the power went out. The heavy steel lid kept everything out and it stayed frozen overnight just fine. Don't remember if we put anything on top of the lid.

ETA -- And the poster above has great advice on recommending heavy duty extension cords. That's a good idea anytime, it seems like you always need to plug in something that draws some current.

Yesterday I bought a Honda EU2000i and really believe I made the right choice. A bit pricy but starts easily, VERY quiet, ran my furnace blower, refrig/freez, tv and lights easily. Ran 9.5 hours overnight on a gallon of gas. Sweet unit.

I gave my gf one of these, and I have the Yamaha version for myself. They're indeed very nice units for applications that don't demand more than ~1600 watts continuous.

Yep. The Honda's with the "clean" power are awesome. They are sensitive electronics friendly. I've got the big brother 6500 watt version. It is super quiet, especially when using the eco power - it only runs at an rpm needed for the power demand. I can pretty much run the whole house with this generator and it's also portable (2 person lift) to run the RV or run power tools, etc. where there is no electricity.

Mine only kicked off the "Eco-Power" when we fired up the microwave. Handled it just fine though.

Be sure to use stabilizer in the fuel. When you're ready to shut it down, turn off the fuel valve and let the generator run until it dies. Do this and it will startup without any trouble anytime you need it.
