Check out the pistol boxes from Fort Knox that are made from fairly thick steel and use a simplex lock. They are designed to be bolted down. Several other manufacturers made similar style boxes to the ones Fort Knox sells.

OT .. but what's the best/most secure safe for your car?
I have a single-gun clamshell-style GunVault (IIRC) that looks like it would be relatively secure if it were bolted to the car. It probably wouldn't stop a determined thief, but it would deter the average smash'n'grab "Uncle Dad" window lickers.

Most of the cables I've seen for those little single-gun safes wouldn't stand up to a good set of lineman's pliers, let alone bolt cutters.

Hit it with a can of Freon and snap it like a twig. Saw a TV news program once about stealing cars with the external steering wheel lock, and some cable type locks. Thief used Freon.

Yep, I leave any pistols in a Handgun Safe brand safe (no longer made) bolted all the way through. It is made of 1/4” steel plate, smash and grab thieves aren’t getting my gun. I just can’t see leaving any gun unsecured anywhere. It is either on my person or locked up in steel.

It's rare that I'm anywhere I have to leave it in my truck. The one time I had my truck broke into several years ago, they took my radio and cd's and left the gun that was laying under the cd case...

This is almost exactly my setup. It works well and I agree I dont like to leave my gun unsecured anywhere (including my house when I'm not there).
