Those older camrys are great deals. Totally uninspiring to own and drive though. The price is great and they seriously last. If you're looking for strictly economy and reliability they're great.

I did the oil change on the Camry and switched to Mobil 1 oil, drove it for a couple days, and yesterday on the way home from work the "check engine" light came on. It was is running fine so when I got home I popped the hood to check the engine, it was still there, so I'm not sure why the light came on. A quick google search when I got home told me that the engine was about to blow up and will need to be replaced.

That code is probably nothing new for that car. Most likely whoever you bought it from reset the light before you test drove it. It can take a few days sometimes to trip the code again. As long as the car drives fine I wouldn't worry about it; it doesn't affect mileage or reliability. Fixing it can be a guessing game. It could be a bad downstream O2 sensor, but there is a TSB on that year Camry for a revised catalytic converter and PCM reprogramming. TSB No. EG013-04 . You may look under the hood near the driver's hinge for a sticker referencing the modifications(This would mean it has been fixed). The immobilizer code isn't an issue unless your car won't start. Trying to start the car with an unprogrammed key can set it off.

Well, I picked the car up from the tint shop today after work and the light was off. The only thing I can think of that has changed is the fuel level came down to just below the 3/4 mark. I'll continue to monitor it and see what happens and also see if it comes back on after the next fill up. I dont think it would have anything to do with the fuel level or quality though.

Could've been a loose gas cap. I know it sounds crazy but I've had it happen a couple times. It's the first thing I check when check engine light comes on. It won't go off immediately but should after a day or so if that's what it is.
