I am going to put together some homemade snake rat shot and I needed some number 12 shot. Smallest container I could buy was 10 lbs which is 7 or 8 lifetimes of ratshot. Ten pounds to my front door was 55.00 and some change.

Never thought about using the wads. Neat trick.
I have a box of the speer capsules. A phone call to speer said to use 6.5 grains of Unique. He said you could use more, but it would cause blown patterns, (as if it isn't already blown.) Only used 7.5 shot, but the #12 would work a lot better.

I think it will be kind cool figuring it out. In the meantime I still have these hens teeth.

I too have been working up #12 shot in 44 magnum. Using 5.5 gr of Bullseye, with a double card (1 cardboard / 1 Styrofoam ) over the powder then about 166 grains of shot capped off with another Styrofoam card. Slight crimp and finish it with a dollop of gorilla glue spread around top. Somewhere around 870ish pellets in that load, I reckon it's going to eat up a snake. Shot a test round at 8 feet into cardboard, all passthroughs and a dense pattern. Going to work up some 45 LC as well. Rattlesnakes have been pretty heavy out here since last fall.

We cross posted. That's a nice pattern!
