Ok, let's say I give you some gold bars. You collect them, transport and store them, then give them away free to thousands of others that need them.

How long would you do that?

And yes, it's still a markup. From zero to whatever it sells for.

I think you're missing the point. If they wanna make a profit offa blood sales I got no problem with that at all. But they prey on gullible people by making it sound like it's all some kinda non-profit charity. It's deceptive.

I haven't heard anyone advocating the .gov swoop in and take over charity work? I support my local charities as much as possible, with donations of goods, with cash and when I can, with my time. If everyone in America put on a pair of gloves, or sacrificed a little to help people in their local communities, there would be little to no need for the .gov to be what it has become.

OBI is not a charity. The blood you give them they sell in the marketplace and they pocket the profits.

OBI does allow you to do directed donations, a rider who was in a bad accident several years ago used almost 25 pints of blood, the Tulsa Sportbike Riders forum got together and went to OBI and did directed donations, he was not billed for the blood used to save his life because we donated specifically for him.

When my grand daughter was sick with leukemia all of her blood products came from OBI. One of the staff explained that cancer patients can't just get their blood from any source because a lot of extra screening is required because of immune system deficiency and she had NONE while on chemo. They praised OBI with their capabilities and practices very heavily. Also the targeted donations that Bettingpython said is a pretty big deal, blood products aren't cheap.

I worked in a job that allowed me to meet A LOT of the people that sell their plasma, and more than once I also got to witness how they spent their money. We'd be a lot smarter storing our own blood.
