I just got my electric bill for 5/10 - 6/10. Wasn't even that hot outside then and it's $300. Can't wait for next month's. Ha!
A properly designed and installed AC unit shouldn't cause any substantial pressure differences inside the home. An ERV is a good thing to have, but it is more for recovery when there are pressure differentials such as when a door is opened or when you run an exhaust fan. The single best thing you can do when building a house is to have a blower door test performed and make sure your house has been properly sealed against air leakage prior to finishing the inside. You only get one chance to seal a home properly.75-76 during the day, 72 at night. I deal with heat much better than cold.
tRidiot, if you build your own place, use an ERV. It can control the pressure in your house, which will stop your HVAC unit from pulling it below outside ambient. That causes hot outside air to seep in from every possible place. The ERV stops that. Good A/C, ERV, good insulation can make an insane difference.
