You retired guys are sure keeping me riled up about the possibility. They offered an early retirement incentive here this spring and only 20 out of 70 that were qualified took the deal. It was pretty loaded with up to 50% of base pay plus some other carrots so I was surprised at the small number taking the deal. I didn't qualify because I was 1 year too young and 1 year of service short. I'll certainly look at it seriously if they do it again when I qualify.

The wife has already warned me I'll still need another gig to keep me out of her way so now I'm working on that.

That gig is called hunting and fishing!

I think she has a gig in mind that involves dollars flowing in rather than flowing out. That's why I have to work on it to get the balance of time and money right. Get the right amount of money for the least amount of time, leaving maximum time for other activities like you mention.

Sometimes that happens.
My wife is much younger than I and has been encouraged by me to retire now, but she likes going to work.
So I'm at "kept man" status. lol.

I cannot even remotely imagine actually having to get up early to S, S and Shave, put on a coat and tie, and go somewhere and do stuff I don't always want to do for someone I don't particularly like. You folks still working hear me out: Plan for retirement and try to live to enjoy it. It's amazing how much less money I spend now NOT having to go to work. Dry cleaning, lunches out everyday, clothing; suits, shirts, slacks, ties, shoes...to heck with that! I haven't worn a tie in two years except for a couple of funerals I had to go to. I like that I may or may not shave my mug in the mornings. I like not having to go to meetings! Heck, I LOVE not having to go to meetings! Every day is Saturday cause every night is Friday night.

Wife and I are the same age but she was in the teacher retirement system long enough to pull the plug at 54, fully qualifying under the "Rule of 80." I am on the "Rule of 90" and I got started later so my first out is age 62 under the rules.

I was one of the last ones to hire under rule of 80 when I was 22. I have 3 years left to reach 80 and I"ll be 50 with 30 years in (previous years of service credit for working at OK State University part time while in school there).
